BM357_TinMan Posted January 22, 2017 Posted January 22, 2017 I know there is another discussion somewhere on this godforsaken board about this so please, save your indignant, snobby, "use the search function" comments, peanut gallery. The problem with MIG-3 takeoffs, landings, ground maneuvering is this: the damned wheel does not lock when you move back into the area where it should be locked. It only locks again IF YOU RETURN AND LET THE RUDDER SIT AT ZERO DEFLECTION for a second or two. When you are trying to counter the stupid P-forces on takeoff, sometimes it is necessary to deflect the rudder into the "unlock" section of the rudder for just an instant. However, when you return back to the "unlocked" section, the stupid *&$#^^ tail wheel remains unlocked. There is now way in @$% that this plane was this squirrel-y on the ground and the problem needs to be addressed. And yes, I'm a little drunk and a lot p'ed off right now as trying to takeoff and land this thing has got me extremely frustrated.

Drunk and accusatory is not really the recommended way to start a thread if you're expecting quality responses. 3
6./ZG26_Klaus_Mann Posted January 22, 2017 Posted January 22, 2017 (edited) Drunk and accusatory is not really the recommended way to start a thread if you're expecting quality responses. But a lot funnier. I mean, IRL I noticed that as well. Aircraft just handle far worse when drunk. Edited January 22, 2017 by 6./ZG26_Klaus_Mann
Caudron431 Posted January 22, 2017 Posted January 22, 2017 (edited) There are alternatives: 1/ Train more, when you finally make it you'll be proud of yourself, 2/ "Nur Sprudel trinken" at least when flying, IMO Being frustrated is part of the fun (and of any learning process) because once you become successful you can see you progress and you know you have improved... And this is fun... You can't be a master immediately. On the other way, asking to change things to to suit ones piloting skills will only make one want to whine when the next difficulty arise. Working "hard" to become good, overcoming the frustration, cope with difficulties, these things are more and more unknown these days it seems... Edited January 22, 2017 by Yak9Micha

The MiG-3 is quite Handful though. 5tuka, Custard and I tried to fly a Mission once and we all failed miserably, all of us Groundlooped on Take-Off at least three times. The Trick is to pull the Stick all the way until you are almost at Lift-Off Speed and only then Relax. (But Man did we embarass ourselves) Edited January 22, 2017 by 6./ZG26_Klaus_Mann
BM357_TinMan Posted January 22, 2017 Author Posted January 22, 2017 Choosing not to respond to the more sanctimonious posts, I will respond to that which, at least, touched on the theme of the original post. Yes, with enough practice, I will be able to handle this thing on the ground. Thus is not quite the point. Point is, there appears to be something wrong here and it appears to be related to how the tail wheel lock/unlock mechanism is modeled.
