Flying__Horse Posted January 20, 2017 Posted January 20, 2017 Hi all, I want to clean, format my hard disk because shes getting too slow. Can i reinstall BoS and CoD again without any problem cause i have bought those 2 simms via steam? Or do i have to copy them to another harddisk? I can find CoD but i do not find BoS game on my harddisk. I have done the install via steam so it must be installed in a standard place somewhere. Thanks a lot FH
curiousGamblerr Posted January 21, 2017 Posted January 21, 2017 I don't know a thing about CoD, and my BoX is non-Steam, so this advice has no warranty or guarantee: I built a completely new rig in December, installed Steam, logged in and installed all my Steam games no problem (no settings, saves etc. were brought over of course). I was also able to reinstall BoX as well, via the Sturmovik website, with no problem. I just saved my input files and my controls came over nearly seamlessly as well.

Thanks a lot FH Move or/and backup steam game folder, then in new system just change game directory in new steam to location where old games are and press install in steam menu it will find out that games files are all ready there and you will be able to play them with settings you are made before.
Sokol1 Posted January 21, 2017 Posted January 21, 2017 You don't need backup the games install - advisable backup joystick related files and custom missions/skins. Since both are STEAM game after the format you need only install STEAM and log in your account, go to Library and leave STEAM install both. Install BoS first since is straightforward. CloD will not run (in Windows 8/10) after STEAM install is conclude, is need install Team Fusion Patches up to 4.312 (if you have this patches install files backup then for avoid re-download).

What if he have steam games installed in the same drive as old system to format ?? btw i have done this more than one with clod to and now he have option to change default game folder installation path. =TBAS=Sshadow14 Posted January 21, 2017 Posted January 21, 2017 should just put it all on a seperate hdd partition .this way like mine i can re-install windows then just run steam from other drive and its already installed and all games working (often just need to re-run pre-requisites)

If - like I said - backup joystick, custom mission and skins, will end with a fresh games install, better than a copy from a fragmented disk running in corrupted Windows. But if want can copy both entire game folder (Clod, BoS), later copy for some place, e.g. I use D:\Clod and D:\BoS, make a shortcut for Laucher/IL2.exe, set "run as Administrator", will work fine. Just start STEAM and start games be this shortcuts. If want can add a shortcut in STEAM GUI as "no STEAM" game. Advantage: STEAM will no mess Clod like they use to do. Disadvantage: STEAM will not update BOS, since they don't know that game are installed. I use the first method for CloD and leave STEAM install BoS and make their updates automatically (now I only open this game for check updates). Bottom line: one has more than one option for do this, use the most convenient he found. Some guys think that game should be installed in "default" patch, Program Files, etc. I never use this, but custom locations. I have 0 of this common problems that some guys had with games. Flying__Horse Posted January 23, 2017 Author Posted January 23, 2017 Ok, thanks for the info. I will copy CoD to another HD. Where is the normal location of BoS on the HD? Thanks, FH
