Luft1942 Posted January 20, 2017 Posted January 20, 2017 Are there any skin packs available for the Bf 109 F-4 and G-2 that have the camouflages JG3 used during the Battle of Stalingrad?
DetCord12B Posted February 4, 2017 Posted February 4, 2017 Nah mate, not really. People love to say that aircraft X and Y left the plant with RLM this and RLM that but truth be told, most birds were painted again post-production downrange by the GC's. The seasons altered and the AO was ever changing, as were the SoP's with regards to camouflage. You'll never find any sort of Reich-wide standardization whence it concerns camouflage patterns or the colors utilized. They were always using what best suited the concurrent terrain and or Operational Environment. Which is why you see odd browns and greens and tans and you name it outside of the RLM norm. The early/late Reichsverteidigung era is a great example. Almost no uniformity existed outside of very specific Sqdn SoP's given their AO, so one flight could easily find a 109 in regular RLM's and another in odd browns and greens never approved by the Luftwaffe HQ. Of course the later you get in the war the more weird it becomes.
unreasonable Posted February 4, 2017 Posted February 4, 2017 As detcord12b says. JG3 started the Stalingrad campaign with tropical finish planes, some overpainted, others perhaps not. New replacements could have been again either tropical finish diverted from their original MTO destination, or standard gray mottle, again with unit variations. Once snow fell, whitewash was added locally. You could put just about anything in with Gruppe markings (early campaign) and/or JG Udet markings and it could plausibly represent a JG3 plane. Situation is not helped by the fact that most of the pictures of the relevant planes in this period are of low quality, hence uncertain in colour and pattern. It would be good if there was such a pack though, since this is the main unit involved. Perhaps someone will do a scripted campaign with a skin pack. 1
