Dakpilot Posted January 19, 2017 Posted January 19, 2017 Early days yet, but does this have the potential to be a great solution, and big improvement over previous eyeX Head tracking without the need for wearing anything and eye tracking, with built in chip to reduce CPU load (eye tracking only) seems to be available slightly cheaper than TrackIR 5 with clip, $150 on amazon currently, so still pretty expensive The downside is it needs to be incorporated in game by Dev's and headtracking part is/was? still in beta https://help.tobii.com/hc/en-us/articles/212814329-What-s-the-difference-between-Tobii-Eye-Tracker-4C-and-Tobii-EyeX- can't quite get my head around it yet, how eye and head tracking would best complement each other but it seems like a great idea if incorporated properly for head movement/view in sims Cheers Dakpilot
Original_Uwe Posted January 19, 2017 Posted January 19, 2017 Hmmm and my trackir just died, funny this comes up just as I need to replace it lol.
Bando Posted January 19, 2017 Posted January 19, 2017 I purchased the Tobii eyetracker about a year ago. I also have the TIR and after trying the eye tracker for about a week (I was determined to give it a fair chance) I returned to TIR and gave the Tobii to my son. He plays ARMA and other shooters with it as far as I know. I just did not like it. It worked as advertised, no worries, but it felt unnatural to move the view as a whole to where you were looking at. I don't know how to explain it in words, it was a feeling. Maybe in relation to VR it needs some sort of filtering or switch to turn the effect on and off. I can imagine to check your six with VR it will be very handy if the last 30 degrees can be covered with eye tracking, as in real life that's also the case. But if your flying and you glance at an instrument and then look back out the screen it is very annoying if the whole view just comes along with that.
Dakpilot Posted January 19, 2017 Author Posted January 19, 2017 With a bit of further research the Head tracking is now fully functional, so you can use it primarily with head tracking and very small eye tracking as you said This is for the new 4C model, in other vids it also seems to work leaning forward etc. V similar to TRackIR, seems a big step up from previous EyeX This vid may make you want to bang your head against a wall, but it has lots of good info a +1 if you get to the end can skip in 30 mins ish Cheers Dakpilot
