Willy__ Posted January 15, 2017 Posted January 15, 2017 Guys, I dont know why, but now my game gets capped at 60fps, even though I changed to 120 in the startup.cfg. I really dont know what happened, since I was consistently getting 100+ fps a few days ago. I also have Vsync unchecked in my game and its set to Off in the nVidia control panel. I play on borderless windowed mode. Any ideas how I can get back to the 100+fps ?
ShamrockOneFive Posted January 15, 2017 Posted January 15, 2017 Two questions: 1) Partly my own ignorance by why change it in the startup.cfg when you can change it in the interface? Is the settings GUI agreeing that you changed it to 120? 2) What happens when you run it in full screen mode?
Willy__ Posted January 15, 2017 Author Posted January 15, 2017 (edited) 1) Partly my own ignorance by why change it in the startup.cfg when you can change it in the interface? Is the settings GUI agreeing that you changed it to 120? I dont know when they implemented it, but a few patches ago, you could only choose up to 80 fps ingame, so I got used to change on the cfg file. But I went to the settings GUI anyways and it does show 120 selected. 2) What happens when you run it in full screen mode? No difference. Edited January 15, 2017 by JAGER_Staiger
ShamrockOneFive Posted January 15, 2017 Posted January 15, 2017 Interesting on both accounts. So: Vsync off (in-game and in nVidia profile) Limiter set to 120fps Full screen/windowed makes no difference Gotta be something we're missing here... I have no problem reaching 120fps in simpler scenes now and 60-90fps is pretty common with DX11 in place.
Y29.Layin_Scunion Posted January 15, 2017 Posted January 15, 2017 Just a tidbit, if your monitor is 60hz, there's no visual way for you to notice +70-80 fps. Once you're getting, say 80fps, on a 60hz monitor...you're costing more performance to your system than is necessary or noticeable.
=TBAS=Sshadow14 Posted January 16, 2017 Posted January 16, 2017 why not just use Nvidia Inspector and limit the frames to what you like (you can type in a number from like 20-200fps.If you on ATI/AMD then im sure they have a similar program.but as Y-29 above said. There is NO point rendering more than 60fps on 60hz Monitor (any frames over 60 will just bring in tearingAs for human ability to notice the difference between 60 - 80 fps is mostly placebo effect. Also Fullscreen mode runs faster (more gpu usage)Allows Vsync (which windowed does not) Set only 1 pre-rendered frame and NO Triple buffer Will remove input lag.
Lusekofte Posted January 16, 2017 Posted January 16, 2017 I am used to 60 fps as the ultimate, and there is no need going over. I do not know when it comes to the higher resolution 4+ K monitors tho. I hear all this talk about 100+ FPS and have been confused about it lately. I myself are just happy if I do not get stuttering, witch I had before in my old RIG . BOS has become the smoothest game for me now. And that is greatly appreciated
19//Moach Posted January 16, 2017 Posted January 16, 2017 if anything above 60fps is even noticeable to the human eye, it would certainly be only so at a rather large difference - like, from 60 to 120 might be noticeable (albeit subtle) - between 60 and 80, it's really not possible to tell, unless you got an unique superpower of some sort the main reason ppl embark on this masturbatory quest for fps beyond 60 is not easily distinguished from "showing off" - it's but a point of pride, I suppose, to own hardware which can reach such performance, even though all merit goes to the fine people who made it possible, and all the proud person has to his credit is that he bought it and followed the instructions (or paid someone) to assemble it into his pc.... it doesn't make much sense... but then again, humans rarely do... my tv clamps out at 60hz, thus my game is capped there too - it can reach around 90ish (this is with a GTX580 btw - try and cope with that, GPU jocks) - but at that rate the image tears up so hard it induces some mild nausea... it can feel smoother then, but only because any occasional "dips" in fps will be hidden by the monitor not even registering them... smoothness however, is not necessarily bound, or achieved by having higher fps -- the game currently suffers from a severe stuttering problem, especially in MP - and this feels "laggier" than a more consistently sustained lower fps tl/dr: I'd take a solid 60 over a jagged 100 any day - also, only when you clamp your fps, you can truly increase quality without it being a tradeoff BOS is extremely smooth for me in single player... on MP, it depends on it's "mood"
Lusekofte Posted January 16, 2017 Posted January 16, 2017 I try to remind myself about this, I have no need for bigger GPU than 1070 but keep looking at 1080 series. It is a sickness I believe.
=TBAS=Sshadow14 Posted January 17, 2017 Posted January 17, 2017 (edited) Limiting FPS to 60fps is NOT The same as Vsync locking to 60fps..vsync actually synchronizes the frames to be in time with the monitors refresh rate (image update rate)its sooo simple i don't know why there is a discussion about it.The best/only real option is to Disable ALL ingame Vsync and Frame rate limiters Then.. - Here are the CORRECT Settings for IL2 on ALL Nvidia Card Above GTX - 76X -In Nvidia control panel - Turn on Vsync for IL2.exe (game specific profile NOT Global Profile)- Turn off Triple Buffering. (smoother but more input delay/lag)- Set Pre-Rendered Frames to 1 instead of 2(smoother but more input delay/lag)bugger that Again..Here are the best primary settings for IL2 these give the best possible Quality while ignoring "Power saving features or other junk"As for the FXAA thats just personal choice as FXAA + ingame X2AA is much better quality than just ingame X4 (and near zero frame lose) Edited January 17, 2017 by =r4t=Sshadow14
Lusekofte Posted January 17, 2017 Posted January 17, 2017 It might be obvious , to me age have made me less motivated to mess around with settings. It is not like I do not care, but things tend to be fair enough if they work. So once in a while people like you come along and do some effort to make people like me understanding. You just made my day a bit brighter, many thanks. I will do this
VBF-12_Stick-95 Posted January 17, 2017 Posted January 17, 2017 For those who are unfamiliar with what each of the settings does in NCP the following guide is very educational. The panel info starts on Page 5. http://www.tweakguides.com/NVFORCE_1.html
Dakpilot Posted January 17, 2017 Posted January 17, 2017 As an addendum to this, if you are running slightly older hardware or dropping a few FPS due to high resolution changing the one field Texture filtering - Quality = High Quality to = Performance Can help, with little reduction in image quality (test for yourself and check quality V's FPS to see which is best on your system) Cheers Dakpilot
