Am I missing the obvious?

Hi,

As the title asks . . . am i missing something when it comes to co-op missions online?

I would like to fly co-op missions with 1 or 2 friends, however I`m having a real hard time trying to find any to run on my server.

I`ve found the odd dogfight mission etc. but i feel i must be missing something, or are there just not many around?

The pure coop mode as in the IL2 1946 days is something the Devs are still to implement. Currently a mission builder uses the DF mode with Human pilots spawning in against AI. You can force dead is dead so you are out if you are killed. Tangmere Pilots do this for our Sunday Ops missions. So there may not be so many around. I suspect if Coop mode is made fully operational then this will change in the same way scripted campaigs are springing up. Also imho a lobby area would work well once coops are up and running

Ahh, cheers Jacko. That makes sense.

I did sign up over at Tangmere before Christmas, but i don`t have access to all the other sections of the forum.

I guess I`ll keep waiting for true co-op then if it`s something in the pipeline?

There also doesn`t seem to be many multiplayer missions you can actually download, many are single player or only playable on peoples servers.

I`ll keep plugging away and finding/making little missions to keep us busy in the meantime :)

Hi Festa do you know that when you join a multiplayer game a file is downloaded to uour pc that you can open in the editor. Hack cut copy etc and save as a mofified version. To share or run on your own sefver

I had read in the ME guide that you could, in a sense, 'force-load' an MSNBIN bin file where the MISSION file itself was missing, but when i tried, the ME told me it couldn`t open it.

I didn`t pursue it as i didn`t know if this was a community grey-area and considered stealing others' work.

I can't tell for other mission builder, but from my point of view, we share all we know here and are happy to share it. We share our groups of objects, ours tricks, and we help when we can. So sharing my mission is not a problem, if you want to modify some of mine, or use it, and use some part of the group inside the mission, go ahaid.

If you have a good server, i have some mission for multiplayer which are set like coop whith an historical briefing (but only one is translated in english with all the explanation and subtitles). And player can activate, or deactivate Ai, so it's playable even if you are just a few because there are AI. And i introduce a lot of random about planes.

Cheers Habu, offer and info is much appreciated.

I did look over the share corners for groups and missions, so was aware of the community spirit, i just didn`t know if using a mission you gained files from joining a server was a thing or not.

The server i run is only active when we`re flying, as i run it from my PC. It`s good enough to get 10-20 ping for me and my buddies (one lives less than 5 miles away and the other is around 40 miles) according to DServer figures, but i wouldn`t be leaving it open for all to join etc.

I wouldn`t mind trying those files anyway Habu, if you`re happy to share, as one of the group is mostly a ground-attack and bomb run guru and myself and the other prefer fighter cover.

Ok, i asked for the server, because i build my mission thinking with the power of my dedicated server, its bandwith and the amount of players. So there are a lot of objects, and a good server is needed. But test.

Here is the mission :

https://www.dropbox.com/s/svdjtzea4s8vhzn/PX_Percee_au_nord_v5.7.zip?dl=0

Read the briefing until the end, where i describe the control of AI (add or delete planes). Keep in mind that a plane with a special name will give a special effect.

It's an aerial bridge and players can play russian or german. There are mission for fighters, ground attack bomber, and drop cargo for the JU52.

I use random event for plane, so planes may change from one game to another. If i remember, they have diferent patrol, so you can meet planes in one area one day, and in the same area nothing another day. My AI does real mission, so they patrol and don't spawn when player arrive in an area. So one time you can encounter several patrol, or no one.

As english is not my native language, maybe there are some fault in the briefing. Do not hesitate to tell me and give me a correction.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask, and i'll answer as soon as possible.

Edit : Carefull, as admin can be present all the time, i give the choice of the player to reset the mission, to be sur that it's the begining of the mission. For that, there are airfield which are named Reload in the bottom of the right corner. You have to use zoom to see them, because there are behind the start button with normal zoom. To reset  teh mission, Select the airfield, select the plane and spawn. Do nothing and 10/20 secondas later, the mission will relaod alone. If it's a good tool, it could be a fucking option, because if someone reset the mission when other are playing it, it will ruin the game of those who play.

Cheers fella, I`ll have a look over this later.

Looks like it covers everything we needed and hopefully it`ll play well with just 2 or 3 of us.

I doubt any of them will mess with the reset mission button, even if i tell them about it, but thanks for the fair warning (if i open it up to the public at some point).

Out of interest, and slightly off-topic, does the server for this game include saving mission progress when it is shutdown, so it can be continued from the same point when re-launched?

No, when you stop it, the mission load is the first from the pool you set.

Hi Habu - Tried your mission and it worked great, although i think it suits a dedicated server more so than my PC.

We kept getting the 'strange plane behaviour' message due to server overload.

I think the smaller maps would be best for us while I`m running the server on my gaming PC while playing.

Hi Festa,

I have no overload on that mission with my dedicated server.

Which side do you fly, and do you activate more AI ?

I don't know what is your PC, so i can't say.

How many players are you, and when is your fly day ?

I think we flew Axis and had to bomb some AAA and tanks outside of Stalingrad.

There seemed to be a whole bunch of AI Ju`s flying with us.

PC is reasonable, 4670k @ stock 3.7GHz. AMD R9 390 and 16GB RAM. Game is running from an SSD.

There were three of us at the time and currently, we just kind of jump on when we`re about, whether it be just two of us or all three. We were thinking of doing a Wednesday night fly about.

At the minute, I`m tinkering with the ME just to get us some various practice, but it`s all pretty early on at the minute.

OK,

By default, there are JU52 and JU87 which are infinite and who fly to the target. On russian side, there are fighters too. (2 or 3 sveno of random plane)

If you fly German use one of these planes to delete the infinite flight of AI (see my briefing):

JU87_Delete : Delete infinite fligh of AI JU87/JU52

BF110_Delete : Delete infinite fligh of AI JU87/JU52

Or you can try to delete only the escorte from the infinite JU52 and JU87 :

BF109_Delete : Delete escorte plane from infinite flight of JU52 and JU87.

MC202_Delete : Delete escorte plane from infinite flight of JU52 and JU87.

Read the briefing to manage the AI and try to delete as more as possible. The best you can do is deleting the infinite fly of JU52 and JU87.

Your PC could be ok (maybe some overload message sometimes) if it host only as a dedicated server. As you play too, i think it's the problem.

Our dedicated server :

Core I7 4790 @4Ghz could go t 4.4 Ghz with automatic overclocking which is a setting of intel processor.

32 GO (it's too much, but as we rent it, we have no choice for that config)

SSD for the system

HD for game

Windows server 2012 R2

For your flight day, what time do you flight, it's the day we fly (we fly at 21h french time) with my squad, but if we don't use the server, i can run it for you.

If you want a practice mission, here is mine which should be fine on your PC :

Thanks man, I`ll give the training mission a go too.

We tend to fly around 8PM GMT onwards to about 11PM whenever we are on.

I did read the brief about deleting planes etc. but we just jumped in and tried it straight out of the box only, so when we get some time and a little more knowledgable, we`ll go back to this and try all its options.

Don`t worry about running the server for us, there`s really no need to go that far beyond the great help you`ve been so far. We`re looking into running an old (semi-decent) laptop/PC as a server at one of the other guys` houses, as they also have better web speeds than me. We`ve not looked up minimum specs for an BoS server, but sure there info can be Googled when we are ready.

For the AI, you don't have to know something special, just knowing the effect in selecting one kind of plane. The control is very simple. You have to select the plane on the airfield, and spawn. That's all. It's the spawn which command the addition or the delete of AI flight. ;)
