TexPilot Posted January 12, 2017 Posted January 12, 2017 This might be old news, thought I would post it anyway. This is the only BMW-801 powered Fw in the world that's flying. It's owned by the Flying Heritage Collection in Everette,Wa. They also have an IL-2M3, they couldn't find an AM-38 so they have an Allison in there. They're also working on an Fw-190D which will hopefully be flying in the near future. http://www.flyingheritage.com/default.aspx Listen to that sound! IL-2 M3 Both flying together: 3
SCG_Tzigy Posted January 12, 2017 Posted January 12, 2017 super awesome place, when i retire, i will move there and volunteer the d9 is in flying condition, my understanding is that they will never fly it tho, too valuable...

TexPilot Posted January 13, 2017 Author Posted January 13, 2017 Nice! Thanks for posting these videos. Your'e welcome! Thought you guys might get a kick out of hearing that BMW sing. super awesome place, when i retire, i will move there and volunteer the d9 is in flying condition, my understanding is that they will never fly it tho, too valuable... I was hoping we would get to see that machine in the air. It is a rare bird though so I can see why they are cautious. in this video, Foud in the Rusian Forest this Fw190 Fantastic! I never read the full story on how they found it. I'm amazed at how well preserved it was. Thanks for posting the video!
Lusekofte Posted January 14, 2017 Posted January 14, 2017 (edited) they couldn't find an AM-38 I am pretty sure that have it, but chose the allison for easier maintenance and reliability. This plane is meant for fying.I am pretty sure they chose to use the Allison engine instead of refurbish the original engine Edited January 14, 2017 by 216th_LuseKofte

This plane is meant for fying.I am pretty sure they chose to use the Allison engine instead of refurbish the original engine True, they would need to machine spares which would not be cost effective for an aircraft they routinely fly. I would like to hear what an original sounds like though.
Gambit21 Posted January 23, 2017 Posted January 23, 2017 This museum is very close to me. I go visit and watch them fly these birds several times a year. They also have a Storch, a D9 (which is air worthy but too valuable to risk) a 109E, an Oscar, a Zeke, a Hellcat a Spit and others.
[CPT]Pike*HarryM Posted January 24, 2017 Posted January 24, 2017 Weird thing is that FlugWerk supposedly built a D-9 (listed as # 990003 here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_surviving_Focke-Wulf_Fw_190s#Table_of_replicas ) I guess they never finished it. I would imagine installing the V-1710 might be a tricky thing to do. I guess there are no running condition or close to running condition Jumo engines anywhere that the owner would be willing to part with.
[CPT]Pike*HarryM Posted January 24, 2017 Posted January 24, 2017 BTW #990010 came to Paso Robles a few years ago and flew around with a Yak-9, pretty sweet to see! 1
Fern Posted February 10, 2017 Posted February 10, 2017 This sucker is right up the road from me. They're (Tri-State Warbird Musuem) still in the process of restoring it. Soon it will be flying over my house. They said the only original part is the tail wheel.
