SharkBait Posted January 11, 2017 Posted January 11, 2017 (edited) So, how many of you played some of Dynamix's work at some point in time? Check out these links: Part I Part II Part III Edited February 6, 2017 by Ace155 1
Ace_Pilto Posted January 12, 2017 Posted January 12, 2017 I played all of them. When AoE came out my dad bought it for me for Christmas. It came on 4x 3 and a 1/2 inch floppies and they somehow got magnetically corrupted so I couldn't install it on the old 486 we had, I almost broke down and cried with frustration. In those days removing the cellophane wrapper from the box was enough to void your warranty so that was that but I kept the manual and read it cover to cover for years. I didn't get to play AoE until I left school, got a job and bought myself a PC and a copy on the new wonder platform of CD ROM.
BeastyBaiter Posted January 12, 2017 Posted January 12, 2017 When I was little, my parents bought a Compaq PC and it included the "Aces Collector's Edition" CD. It had Red Baron, AoE, AotP and A-10. They were the only games I played until they bought a new PC able to run Red Baron II/3D, Janes Longbow 2 and a few others. I agree with his point on modern flight sims lacking soul. I don't think it's a matter of the game play being worse than it was 25 years ago but more a matter of video games in general have advanced by huge amounts and yet we in the flight sim community are still stuck in the early '90's. I just can't immerse myself in BoX's or DCS's campaigns like I can in The Witcher series, Fallout 4 or even Doom.
LLv34_Flanker Posted January 12, 2017 Posted January 12, 2017 S! Used to play them back in time Along with Microprose, Jane's and other studios' games. Great times!
Rjel Posted January 20, 2017 Posted January 20, 2017 Right after playing LucasArts BoB sim for hundreds of hours, I got Dynamix Red Baron in stunning 16 bit EGA no less. Finally got the upgraded VGA patch a few weeks later thru the U.S. mail. I'll bet there are some newer simmers here who never had the experience of waiting for a patch to be mailed (not emailed, real honest to God mailed). After that I played both Aces games. I always wished Dynamix would've stay in the sim business.
SharkBait Posted January 20, 2017 Author Posted January 20, 2017 Thank you everyone for the responses. I have posted Part II...you can find the link the first post.
