BM357_TinMan Posted January 11, 2017 Posted January 11, 2017 An idea was thrown out in another discussion that I believe has merit. It would be nice if each plane had it's own sub-forums with sub-forums within it: For example:The Rules (sub-forum) FAQ (sub-forum)Announcements ((sub-forum)etcetc109 (sub-forum) -->General Discussion -->Tips/Tricks/Tutorials/Technical Data -->Technical Support (This is where all the FM complaints/discussion could go along with things that are obviously wrong like graphical anomalies, etc)I was recently REALLY struggling with the stupid MiG-3 and I had to search for a picture that had the cockpit panel layout labeled in English then I had to search to find the forum where people were complaining about how hard the stupid thing is to take off and land (as I am having the same problem) I did find these things, but it would be better if they were localized. This would make this sim more approachable.
BraveSirRobin Posted January 11, 2017 Posted January 11, 2017 No point. They all turn into 190 threads. 6
Finkeren Posted January 11, 2017 Posted January 11, 2017 No point. They all turn into 190 threads. Sadly, that's not far from the truth. To the OP: I honestly think the forum is fragmented enough as it is. 2
SCG_Space_Ghost Posted January 11, 2017 Posted January 11, 2017 I'm with Fink. These aren't the DCS forums. 1
curiousGamblerr Posted January 11, 2017 Posted January 11, 2017 Man I kinda liked this idea and it's funny I was just thinking about it a few days ago... All under a top-level "Planes" subforum... I think it would be nice because experts on each plane could do a nice write up post on each and that could be stickied. So if you want to start messing with a new plane you could find the info easily. And it would keep the 190 and P40 talk out of General Discussion.
coconut Posted January 11, 2017 Posted January 11, 2017 Sadly, that's not far from the truth. To the OP: I honestly think the forum is fragmented enough as it is. Adding a level in the hierarchy would reduce fragmentation. Info about a plane is usually easy enough to find if the plane was just released, but a few months later it can be hard to get to again. An alternative would be to build a wiki. Forums are good for discussion, but they are no good as databases or encylopedias. 3

Forums are good for discussion, but they are no good as databases or encylopedias. Your first point is my view too - which prompted my own suggestion elsewhere. A wiki might actually be a better idea: quite a lot of discussion is in the "Plane A vs Plane B" format, and no-one wants a sub-forum for every possible combination! It would also work for information other than aircraft specific stuff, such as PC tech stuff, how the editor works etc. The disadvantage is that it would need a number of people to put in the effort. You would have to have restricted editing rights to to prevent various malcontents entering words such as "nerfed" and "porked" into the various plane descriptions. 1
Finkeren Posted January 11, 2017 Posted January 11, 2017 (edited) It's amazing to me, that this sim has not yet spawned a wiki. I personally volunteer to write the articles on "Luftwhiners", "the bar" and "two weeks, be sure". Edited January 11, 2017 by Finkeren
Wulf Posted January 11, 2017 Posted January 11, 2017 Kind of ironic that the very people who moan so much about everything turning into a 190 thread actually turned this into a 190 thread. Funny and yet kind of sad at the same time...... 4

BlitzPig_EL Posted January 11, 2017 Posted January 11, 2017 No point. They all turn into 190 threads. Quoted for truth. There are never more than seven degrees of separation from FW 190 threads.
Danziger Posted January 11, 2017 Posted January 11, 2017 No point. They all turn into 190 threads. I actually lol'ed when I read that here in the waiting room at the doctor!

Funny and yet kind of sad at the same time...... Not sad at all. The fact that every thread turns into 190 thread is quite funny. Sad would be a person with over 1000 posts pretending that he's being silenced. Edited January 11, 2017 by BraveSirRobin
