What can be done about this? (WOL Server)

Was just landing after a successful bombing raid in my Pe2, was on final approach with landing and my wing lights on and gear down. I see what I think is a lag that has just taken off turn towards me (I think nothing of it) and I carry on with my approach and I hear him getting closer and closer behind me and boom he opens fire on and destroys what is obviously a friendly aircraft landing at the airfield he just took off at.

Is there a ban policy for this server for intentional friendly fire? Because IMO it shouldn't be tolerated..

If it was one single instance, I'd chalk that up to a simple mistake. It's fairly easy to mistake the Pe-2 for a Bf 110 (I've done so myself on more than one occassion)

Perhaps he didn't notice your gear was down and mistook you for a 110 coming in to strafe the airfield?

If he did something like this several times or ignored calls to check fire, then obviously hit him with the ban hammer, but based on one incident, it's really not too damning.

I don't know pal, coming in at 200kph, wheels & flaps down, Nav and landing lights on..     from that close you would have to be a complete "novice" (Putting it politely) to not notice the difference between at 110 on an attack run and a Pe2 on final approach ahah

There's been a lot of friendly fire on WoL of late.

A guy named JJ Rouss has tked axis bombers on more than one occasion

Yeah, but that might just be it: Maybe he WAS a noob? Certainly we don't go around banning newcomers for making rookie mistakes?

That's why I'm nearly always against banning people on first offense.

Now, if he had continued to pull stunts like that, then sure: Ban his sorry arse, he clearly deserved it.

When flying on WoL dont put your expectations in your teammates too high. :/
When I was completey new to IL2 WoL was the first server i regularly flew on and I did a lot of friendly fire because of failed identification. (Id like to say sorry at this point)
I think WoL is the server with the highest appeal to newbies because it has a lot of players and a reputation even outside of IL2 through youtubers and of course it has beginner friendly settings/mission design.

Idk if it's all the sales or what, but there is obviously an influx of new players on WoL lately and I think we all need to have some patience. Keep an eye out for any repeat offenders, try to help the newbies in chat and point them to this forum if you don't feel like answering every single question and be glad people are buying our beloved Sturmovik  :salute:

Full real is very challenging for new comers let alone old hands like me who still need to get pretty close to confirm an e/a. But a slow moving aircraft in landing configuration deserves a second look before blasting it

The other day, I shot up a PE-2 near a German fortified area. I swore up and down it was a 110, as it even looked like flak was attacking it from the objective. Turns out, the flak was shooting at someone else. (Sorry whoever that was)

I agree with Finkeren. Don't be too hard on a first offense. I would also say watch the recording and make sure he couldn't have mistaken you for an enemy. If he was completely new, then Nav lights and flaps might not have told him you were friend.

Also, just maybe he came from Warthunder and thought you were looking to land and capture the airfield or gunner camp it. If you don't know what I'm referring to, take a look at simulated battles in Warthunder and how the objectives, mainly airfields, work.

I just saw the guy today on Berloga. He was in a Yak 1 and shot down the La 5 I was about to shoot..

I don't think he is clueless as this obviously wasn't the first time.

Uh oh. Not looking good for this guy...

And now that I think about it, players with names ending in multiple numbers aren't usually the best to be around in multiplayer games ;)

Some people simply do not understand to not pull the trigger until they are SURE that this is an enemy aircraft.

Personally, I prefer to be killed than kill/Damage a friend. But I guess not all pilot are like me.

This is actually true. Irresponsible players with names ending in multiple numbers. Watch out for these reprobates.

It's probably blasphemous to say it, but 'friendly icons' could help with this stuff.  In most cases, realistically, you would pretty much know where your allies or friends are anyway.  With radio simulation and mission planning etc.  I always liked friendly icons in the old Il2 days.  Plus...then, if you shoot down an icon'd (not sure if that's a word), then you deserve to be kicked.  At least for a while.  It's pretty difficult to miss a colored icon regardless of your experience level.

Also, I agree that an occasional friendly fire incident as much as it sucks, is 98% pure accidental.  Every night, on any server I fly on, at least once or twice someone apologizes in chat for doing it.  Repeated events though....yeah.  It just ruins it for everyone else.  That's what FFA servers are for.  (those are fun by the way).

I'm sorry that you had to be dropped down like that though.  Looks like you had a great mission.  War sucks!!

If the guy is new to the game, he perhaps thinks it's similar to the FPS "last man standing" free for all? Who knows. Just feel bad for his teammates.

Wings of Liberty is notorious when it comes to teamkillers.

My past 3 weeks is a clear example

I have had several sorties in the Bf 110, Fw-190, M.C.202 and Bf 109.

In these weeks I have been shot down by Russians only twice... However, I got shot down numerous times by german pilots. In the weekend alone I got shot at by 6 germans but only once by Russians.

It is simply the nature of Wings of Liberty.

if they not close enough to see the wing markings and so on and you fire its NOT friendly fire its Stupidity.

A there is no reason to fire beyond the visual id range ( 350-400m as 99% of the guns are useless past this point anyways , hence the reason why german 20mm's were fired at 25-100M max)

I flew a sortie with BHH1 yesterday and can confirm. A single Bf 109 flying into a pulk of FW 190s and choosing BHH1 as a target, ripping him to pieces. A repeat offender too, as proven by the chat exploding with laughter on this persons continued inability to properly identify targets.

Seems like many Germans have fallen to this Hartmann. :hunter:

In any case, friendly fire happens and I agree that a single instance doesn't merit a ban. For many of us, identifying planes has become easy but for each of us, there is one that is just learning. The shock of getting a warning of friendly fire is often reason enough for players to be extra sure next time. Then again, repeat offenders should maybe get a little bit of tough love.

Working on an identification video myself, I doubt it will change much but perhaps one or two pilots will find it helpful.

Did some research and he repeatety tks teammates seconds after take off. He took off this month 13 times and killed 3 teammates. Most of the time within one minute after take off.

That is deliberate.

I just did

I do have to add though that this guy is of a rare type. It is extremely rare that people fly with the sole intention of killing teammates.

Icons?? Hell no! learn to recognise as we all did. Even ffa berloga do not have it on. Use ban/kick option to vote for remove tk from current mission.

Thanks for the help Blackhellhound!

I think mentioning it to other server mods/ owners would be beneficial because banning him from WOL is only going to lead to him abusing on other servers =/
