Controls -- Which new commands equate to ORIGINAL settings?

The one thing most series suffer eventually.... changing key commands.

I'm a little grizzled. I finally went back to play Dover (got a good gfx card for max settings) and enjoyed it.... though it continues to feel too cinematic and a bit arcade after two weeks. I went to seek DLC or custom add-ons to make it more aggressive and came across Stalingrad / Moscow which I've now bought into.

As always with this series there are a ton of keys to edit / convert. I noticed that some sound like they will do one thing, but end up not.

Has anyone gone through and saved a file with keymappings duplicating orig Sturmovik / 1946 / et al?

Just learn the bloody default controls! It's not hard and they are all quite intuitive. It didn't take me long at all.

I also came from different sim with much different key bindings. No problem, just learn the defaults - they are good.

Nah. Gonna be a persistent prag about it. =) They may be intuitive if you created them with limited english, but not super great. Still..... better than LOMAC.....

Why don't you just do this yourself? For one, the commands are not an exact duplicate and secondly, I highly doubt anyone has bothered to do what you want.

nah - that never made any sense to me, as every sim has its peculiarities and they differ from one another, i do not standardise at all.

Is this for real? Good grief man, just learn the controls. Come down from your pedastal, put your supercilious English prowess aside and just take 10 minutes to learn the controls.

Water cooler open/close: right ctrl +/-

Off you go

HI Ramius and welcome to BOS ! I believe BOS has the most "user-friendly" Settings Menu I have come across in 25 years of PC  Flying ....Set aside 15 mins . Go through all of them and set your bindings...Just remember you can Bind Different "Actions and Axis" multiple times.

Give you an example : Pitch Trim Up Keystroke.(or button).... I also have same button Bound to "Stabiliser Up" for the FW. I have "Open Rads/Cowls bound to the same Axis. If the Aircraft Doesn't have what you have Bound, the program will use the "Other" binding you have set.

You mentioned "Another" Sim ! Someone else mentioned "Standardise" controls ! ..Yes, I believe "Open/Close Canopy" should be the same for all aircraft. Its not in Other Sims.

Like I said Ramius, In 15 Mins you can Set Up all your planes in BOS....And make adjustments on the Fly !

I think BOS has got this right !

in most game i play i almost never use default key mappings
I will delete all key maps and remake them as i like them

here it can take a little while maybe an hour or so some games/sims well over 10-12 hours of adjusting and mapping.

God Almighty what a waste of life. It takes 10 minutes to learn the controls. No need to be a stubborn old fossil stuck in stone.

10 to 12 hours control mapping? I could never imagine such a thing. Boggles the mind.

Good luck mate.

Rubbish. People have different preferences. People have different periferals. Personally, I'm left-handed. I remap pretty much every game.

Sheesh. Have fun with that boggled mind.

I remap everything and try to make every flight sim function along the same lines.

I did some work on the mapping. Got it functional.

But I'm finding barriers to the game which have turned the $80 purchase and all the pretty graphics to waste.

For my level of interest in the game, I greatly enjoy the myriad of technical options on the aircraft in flight. I like to adjust the mixture or prop rpm depending on plane. That's the geek in me.

However..... here is where my issue hits with "sims".... devs try to force a perspective and they are not always good. For me... flying in real life is easy, you have a clear situational awareness and clear view - it is the world around you. Presenting a sim world on a machine with, in this case, a 24" screen is tough. I commend the devs. It is clear a lot of work went into the game. That being said.... I live in the real world and I come here to play. I work long hard hours and expect to come home and enjoy games like this. I *will* devote more time to playing with the various and complex view commands and settings. I'm certain I can improve what I have to work with. But, honestly, this sucks. I do NOT like the concept of TrackIR. I was one of the first to buy one when they came out a decade ago, but it sucks - drives me nuts. Yet I feel that is what I almost NEED to have in order to properly view the world and be successful with the airframe. This feels like a forced topic. With complex graphics comes the need for more complex attention. Right now, I simply cannot correlate the myriad of view controls with the new myriad of flight controls. If I were a teen or single, sure, I'd devote the time to perfect it all. That is not the case. I'm pretty frustrated with the game to be honest. The temptation of upgraded graphics and controls is great. The execution is inhibited. This is the devs game, not mine. I bought it. This should be my game, not the devs. There is no selection of aircraft. Just the basics, and even that is slim. The english in the campaign is, for the first time, mostly correct.... and that's great, but I also feel we lost a little piece of the 1C experience. Mostly, I do pine for the old "wonder woman" view sans cockpit from IL-2, Pacific Fighters, Forgotten Battles, 1946, and even Dover. I don't have hundreds of hours on these platforms.... I have THOUSANDS. Because I did own them when I was younger and single and addicted to downing the Bosch and the Reds or the the Japs and the Yanks.

Believe me. I love my realism. I am a NUT for it on Subsim.com with SH3, 4 and 5 and have modded my games heavily to increase intensity. My disconnect here is with the forced disconnect with the sim world. The devs perspective is clearly that forcing cockpit view increases the "experience." I argue the opposite, that it instead interrupts the experience and breaks the flow of the sim. Its fine for taxiing and cross-country flights, dickering with views and watching the horizon - but I don't see comfort at all in even easy combat scenarios where the AI lines up and lets you rape them. How then can I ever hope to handle a real ace of an AI?

Anyone have a mod out that allows campaign with custom difficulty? Or how about a mod to return the hud-only view?

Or do we have to pay a separate installation for that, too?

I was quick to buy and download the game because I am a 1C follower from WAY back, have loved all the old products, and was eager to see the new graphics. I see great improvement over Dover, but my assessment is that this is a wasted game and I can only presume if it has not been corrected yet in two years of active release that we cannot expect there to be any positive change. That sucks.

wow so srry, i don't think u will find much sympathy here...

i personally never used the WW view in any sims, but i can see some like that option...

i couldn't live without TrackIR.

Not sure what to make of this post: frustrated rant or considered opinion?  But a few observations:

TiR works really well for this game and is pretty much the standard. It just takes a bit of getting used to with a good profile. Lots of people have posted theirs.

The game contains the traditional options for snap views controlled with keys or a hat, or pan view controlled with a mouse.

The only thing it does not do - in respect of views - is wonder woman. This is for the reason - I believe - that this would be open to MP abuse.

It may be possible to create this in mods-on mode: but such a mode does not yet exist in BoX.  Btw there has been no indication that mods on mode will have to be paid for. You may have to pay for some mods, but the mode itself I am sure will be a free update, assuming the team actually get the time to create it, just as it is in Rise of Flight.

Personally I think that wonder woman is about as far from a devotion to realism as it is possible to get, but that is just my opinion. What it can be useful for is film making, which is the reason I created (almost) wonder woman mode for a camera chase aircraft while making a RoF film. You can do things with it that are impossible with free camera or other views. IMHO it would be a useful mod for SP for this reason: films with the default views are often stereotypical.  If people want to actually play SP in wonder woman, as far as I am concerned that is their business.

As for no choice of planes: there are already more than I will ever be able to master, given the very in depth nature of the simulation.

I understand that the multiplicity of choices can be frustrating at first, but once you have a control/viewset up that works for you concentrating on the flying is easy.

Bottom line is, if it is all too difficult to get set up, try something more casual. I hear the War-Thunder is actually quite good in it's way.

I agree ! But at least we tried to help !...And that's what we do on BOS Forums ~S~

Yup I lost it there. This guy is consumed in his own sense of self-importance. First he throws around his arrogant sense of entitlement as a 'native English speaker', and then:

"This is the devs game, not mine. I bought it. This should be mine "

Complete and utter codswallop. Good riddance!

No, but turning off "aids" you can leave NORMAL equals to EXPERT - minus external vision.

Looks like you missing the target, War Thunder is the game that you are looking for, and has this "wonder woman" BS.  :)
