Based on the map posted by Zeus, I have created a series of maps with the idea of printing them on a A1 standard size.

I used some actual german maps from the ww2 time and I used the legend and "frame" of the map to give a "real map" look to the ones I made.

The scale of the maps is correct when they are printed on A1 size. i.e. on the 1:300 000 maps, 3,33cm on the paper equal to 10km of BOS terrain. Also the graphical scale on the cener lower section of the map is accurate.

The map set include a 1:500 000 map, which covers the whole Stalingrad map, and four 1:300 000 maps, one for each one of the quadrants. The 1:300K have around a 30% overlap both on N-S and E-W directions.

I modified the map legend a little bit to match the limited symbols that the in-game map displays, but the legend itself and the rest of the frame have the main purpose of making the map look more real. Most information on them is not accurate. Although the real map used is the d-49 sheet corresponding to Stalingrad, the real german 1:300 000 were much smaller than A1 format, thus the info about the limiting sheets does not match with the BOS map.

I already printed my maps on a local shop and they look good!!! I recommend to use at least 100gr/m2 paper.

Needles to say that feedback and suggestions are welcome.

Not "created by Zeus", only published it from ingame-files :)

I am sorry but, Initially, no. Right now I am working on a set of maps for BOM.

Anyway, IMHO I think the legend language is not very important. the map is basically the BOS map with a "pretty" frame somehow related to the map, but neither the legend nor the explanation or coordinates of the real chart are applicable.

once done with the basic maps for BOM, I would rather modify the "in-game map" layer to make it look more like a real map and to make it more "readable", but that is a huge task for which I am not sure to have enough time.

Teaser of the BOM progress (done 3 out of 5 maps)

I'm sure that it will look nice in your walls but... Take my advice and use it with yours hands to navigate and forget the "M" map....

You will enter a new dimension of the sim.

Wonderful stuff Chipi - thanks for doing this, they'll be much used here. Even though I'm now a retired mapmaker I still love the things!

Cheers.

I wish the ingame map would have a more "real chart" look. Not because I am an ultra-realism freak, but because they would be easier to use when printed.

I am aware that on my maps it's very difficult, even in the 1:300 000 to tell the difference between a railroad and a road...

I tried the 250k scale, but the overlap was lower than 10%. IRL these kind of maps have normally no overlap, but I wanted some to be able to use a single map for most of the missions.

I have to learn a little bit more about Photoshop, and maybe in the future I will find an easy way to redraw the roads and railroads... But that will be for version 2.0

And when I release BOM maps I will include the real maps of the area that I found, as well as the real maps for the Stalingrad area.

It's possible to navigate with them, but the only problem is that the 1:300K German maps were smaller than an A1 size, meaning that it's needed eight charts to cover the whole Il-2 BOS map.

Yesterday I installed PWCG (awesome!! and big thanks to PW) and i noticed that the intel map was exactly the kind of map I was looking for, with a better readability for larger scales and a closer look to a real topographical chart.

So I contacted PW and decided to re-do the BOS maps with the new look. Unfortunately, I could not find such maps for Battle of Moscow, and to plot all the roads and railroads would be too much work right now for me with my limited knowledge of graphic design tools.

I will upload shortly the link with the new maps and leave also the old ones in the server. During this week, as I did for BOM, I will also upload the real charts I found applicable to the BOS theater.

The cool thing is with the new chart, since its better readability,  the 1:500k chart should be enough to navigate throughout the whole BOS scenario . I'll se when I print this new set.

this is how the REAL charts look like....

And here how the new BOS maps look like

Any way to get these hosted on a site that doesn't pop up pictures of fetuses and other gross ads? (I don't even know what I'm looking at, some click bait about probiotics killing babies? no idea...)

I can't find the download button before this crap pops up, have tried a few times.

Thanks anyway for your hard work!

Sure... I had not checked the "direct download" checkbox for the maps.

Now you should be able to download them directly.

If not, I will upload them somewhere else.

Funny to see the BvB avatar and then your location. I live 50km north of Dortmund...

I spent a few months as an exchange student in Bocholt many years ago. After inadvertently buying a BVB lighter and causing an argument with some Schalke fans outside a bar, I became a BVB fan and when I came back to the US started watching them every weekend

Fantastic work Chipi! Printed large map in A1 on thicker paper and it looks absolutely stunning.

Questions;

1. The smaller maps (300k) , are those supposed to be printed on A3?

2. Are you still working on the BoM maps?

Thanks again!

The 300K are also made to be printed also on A1.

Before I got the enhanced readability maps for BOS, the 1:500K map was too hard to read, and I needed the 300K maps to be able to read the map features.

If you print the 300k maps on A3 I think they would be too small to read and, of course, the "real scale"of the map wouldn't be correct.

The BOM maps are done and posted. Unfortunately I don't have the time to create a enhanced readability map like the ones I found for BOS, so we'll have to settle for the normal ingame map as map base.

Enjoy them...

Hi. And how about Luki and Kuban map :)?

Ok, I´ll check if i can find a kuban map and do the printable maps.

I flew yesterday for the first time the map online, because I don't own BOK (YET...) and the map is really really nice.

It will take some time because I am busy developing profiles for Keyspeech(the voice recognition software), but I will ad the request to my "printer queue"

What a nice work you have made and offered there, Chipi - I love such things. Must find out if my local shop can print DIN A1 size!

Thanks a lot for this!
