Stabilizer / Trim on Bf109

Hi all, thanks for helping.

I noticed that by default the trim on the F4 is set on -32 degrees.
I assumed that normally with 0 degrees it is flat with the levelled flight direction and produce less drag this way.
Does it make any sense? or since you need to slightly push it down in order to keep it level it would create the same drag anyway...?

Basically I am trying to ask if the trim settings effect the speed? How do I set it to squeeze the most speed out of the plane.

Two things:

1) Trim settings do affect your speed. As you speed up, you should trim it nose-heavy (i.e. more negative on the in-game display). If you are going fast and don't have to push the stick forward to prevent it from climbing, then you are trimmed. The exact numbers are mostly irrelevant because the proper trim setting changes with your fuel load, your speed, and the atmospheric conditions. You just have to get the feel for it. I personally trim it down to about -40 or so in level cruising flight.

2) IIRC, the number in the game is a percentage and doesn't really have any real bearing on the aircraft as it was in history. Real pilots just trim until the stick stays where they want it.

Correct, the actual value in degrees can be seen on the the control wheel itself.

And, contrarily to the 109 in another sim, this one has also the trim tab set so that takeoffs feel more natural when you retract gear and accelerate.

You can notice the effect of the trim tab setting, forcing the elevator down ( nose heavy effect ) the moment there is propwash over the tail.

When I start without bombs, I take '0°', when I start with bombs, I take '-1°', so a little tailheavy. When I start the first mission with the 109, it is always preset to '-2°' by the game, but when you fly more missions behind, you always start the missions with the setting, you left the pevious mission. So, if you land with '-4°' and let your trim until you exit the mission, you will start the next mission with '-4°'.

Default settings for trim are just random and they are not intended for a use guideline.

You cannot just spawn in and take off with the random default trim (they are all over the place)

Take the JU87
(Trims start on/Default to -47% Nose down, - 38% Nose Left - )Completely wrong and will actually easily get you kill on take off

Where as the actual take off trims are
(75-85% Nose Up Trim and only 15-20% Nose Left - )Takes off with little effort @ 220 kph rotates like a fighter without flaps

But even then Regarding the BF109's
Reset the Take off trim to Normal about +5 / +15% Stab Trim
