1whiskey-charlie Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 In response to this post from "CLOD hud graphic would be nice" Skoshi_Tiger For me the perfect solution would be to allow the gauges to be exported to a third party program that could be displayed on a second monitor. I guess I must be getting a bit decrepit, but the guages are hard to read.In the original IL-2 we had device link, and other sims have similar functionality. Exporting of the values can be restricted to what was historical displayed in each aircrafts cockpit so there can be no whining about cheating and it would give all the people who invested in SimPits a chance to play. Yea, what he said! I am one of many pit builders. I paid the full founder price to support the IL2-Battle of Stalingrad team fully knowing that I may never use the simulation. Two cockpits are just to weird to fly with. Am hoping that some day this sim will live up to the IL2 name and have all the benifits of the original IL2 simulation including devicelink. 3
Skoshi_Tiger Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 (edited) Wow! That simpit is simply magnificent. Well done! The exportable instrument information is very common in many flight sims. Il2 uses UDP coms in devicelink, DCS allows you to put the instruments on another monitor using .Lua files and the modded COD uses memory mapped files (Not sure about the un-modded), not to mention the big civilian sims. Of all I think I like the device link the best, simply because it allows you to have your external instruments handled by a separate PC/Laptop. Hey even a code monkey like me managed to get a delphi program to talk to IL2. That said even though the virtual cockpit program for COD has to run on the same PC as the sim there is little or no lag. In any of the sims I've used with external displays I haven't seen any performance degradation on the flight sim. I guess the biggest issue is making sure the exported instrument set is historic for that particular aircraft that you’re flying. Cheers and thanks for showing us your pit! FuriousMeow Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 You probably won't play this game, but you want something that exports data externally for the few people that build simpits. But, why would you care if you probably won't ever play the game? Additionally, this will surpass the "Il2" series of old. It already has better ground handling and flight modelling.
Skoshi_Tiger Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 (edited) SimPits are only a small part of it. All you really need is the second monitor and a third party program to take advantage of it. I personally fly with instrument displays whenever possible. I find it intuitive and more immersive, (A number of times I’ve been bounced with my head down in the cockpit!) and has a negligible impact on performance in most of the sim that I’ve used. But exported instruments are just a small part of it. The same functionality can and is routinely used in data logging programs. It’s very hard to manually collect flight data to evaluate flight models in a sim (as in real life) , this functionality can accurately record the data. How else are you going to validate the flight models objectively? With BoS already being head and shoulders above IL2 in so many ways, I really think it would be a pity to see this functionality neglected when it can add so much. That said the Alpha is only 32% complete and there is probably a TO-DO that is several miles long but in time I would like it included. Edited December 4, 2013 by Skoshi_Tiger
bolox Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 for the few people that build simpits. T here may be more than you might imagine. Data export is 'normal' on most modern sims - even old IL2 had it
J4SCrisZeri Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 In response to this post from "CLOD hud graphic would be nice" Yea, what he said! I am one of many pit builders. Any chance to see a movie of that magnificent thing in action?
1whiskey-charlie Posted December 5, 2013 Author Posted December 5, 2013 Thanks Scoshi_Tiger, have been working on it for 12 years now. Great hobby! I agree, devicelink works very well. The 3rd parties who wrote UDSpeed did a good job with it. They worked quite well on secondary monitors. For those who may not be familiar with: http://forums.ubi.com/showthread.php/261966-New-UDPSpeed-Display-working-cockpit-gauges-on-a-2nd-screen?s=0986e1c03160d06ad41338e274dee3e7 Once we were able to convince Flight Illusions to have a look at IL2 devicelink they were able to incorporate it into their software package quite easily. http://www.flightillusion.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=73&Itemid=478 Yea, no degradation what so ever using either of these. When I was using UDSpeed for gauges on a second monitor, I had a gauge set for each aircraft I flew. Let me explain FuriousMeow....No doubt, IL2BOS is looking unbelievably fantastic! The graphic are stunning! Not sure about the flight modelling have not had a chance to fly it yet. The truth is, I will play it ,but just to monitor its pogress. I care very much about the progress of the sim because I would like nothing more than to put the old IL2 on the shelf. But it will never be better than the original IL2 for my set up unless two things happen. 1) Devicelink or similar 2) Physical pit view with prop spin only. Hello bolox my good friend and fellow pit builder! Did you notice the F4U IAS gauge face plate in the pic? You supplied me with that art work years ago! (also thanks for helping me with my prop view mod for the IL2 F4U) Will mods ever be possiible with IL2BOS? Yea sure J4Scriszeri will do, but to busy with my real job to do right away, will try when I get some time. Extreme_One that is correct. But am hoping though for the continued success of IL2BOS in that some day it will meet my needs. So much so, that I supported it with currency!
Sorbifer Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 (edited) Hi! Any news about a possibility to read data from plane instruments? As mentioned above "original" Il2 had that, CloD also has it (http://theairtacticalassaultgroup.com/forum/showthread.php?t=3887) and even War Thunder does - in a fancy way that it gives you data via http on port 8111 (http://forum.warthunder.com/index.php?/topic/73401-accessories-supported-in-full-real-battle, for only instruments check it in the browser http//:127.0.0.1:8111/indicators) It would be great to have it working also with BoS. And its successors... Edited March 17, 2015 by Sorbifer

-=K=-Konrado Posted July 29, 2016 Posted July 29, 2016 I hope they will implement something like Device Link. It would be nice to build some fancy panels or use old ones. I'm not saying it is necessary to do this but many people will appreciate it.
No.401_Alpine Posted August 3, 2016 Posted August 3, 2016 I'm all for it.I never fly without it in CLOD.
