Already Steamed But...

..wondering if I should get BOS and all future packages directly from 1C's website. I searched the various forums and do realize that both copies are identical. But is the following a catch..

Currently I am consistently running via the internet at 125Mbs with uploads at 12.0Mbps, sometimes higher. So really can't complain too much though some further down the line are running quite a bit faster via their cable modems. We are looking to move to an area where the speeds might possibly be not that great - say half that speed if lucky, or really worst case - internet via satellite. By downloading IL2 via Steam obviously requires decent internet connectin in order to run the program from within Steam, would it make more sense to download IL2 directly to my PC from the 1C website in order to run the missions and campaigns without having to worry about internet speeds and disconnects? Or isn't that how it works? I was guessing that the only time I would notice having a version saved on my HD while playing in so far as stable, fast, fluid speed would be if  "I reached out" over the internet in order to use multiplayer, then stuff would be a slide show. Flawed thinking here?

I'm only trying to prepare myself incase where we end up is still living in the 80's in so far as internet speed and reliability goes. As we may end up living "off grid" the mind shudders at the thought of having to use satellite but that's absolute worse case. But even so, would having the copy saved to my HD at least give me the advantage of still running BOS as fast as what I'm used to now but just not multiplayer if indeed the internet is slow, or am I screwed either way? Before I throw even more money into this  I just want make sure I'm heading in the right direction - Steam based or hard drive based.

Didn't want to make this sound more complicated than what it is so I do apologize in advance and thank you for any input in this matter as well. First time player as just a few days ago and since I love ROF and 777 was involved here sounded like a no brainer for me. Love it. Missed the big sale otherwise I would have bought everything. Would be great too if they expanded outside the Russian front in another series...just a thought...

Best Regards,

Jeff

Buy it on the 1C website. There are only advantages, but no disadvantages. You can still run other games on steam. That doesn´t hurt.

I have no issues with BoS using 3rd world internet speeds, even online (about a tenth of what you have now)

the only issue I have is with ping due to having some large elements of wireless internet to the main Hub in nearest big city

not sure some of your worries are very relevant, it should be fine  :)

Short answer: Yes.

It will be activated and added automatically to your Steam version, and you will give 100% of your money to the Devs, and not to Steam.

No need, play with Steam version it works fine.

Thanks for all the replies! Yeah, didn't know if this was a "legit" question or I was overthinking it. So I take it that whether or not you buy from Steam or 1C directly, multiplayer functions in the same manner with no advantage to either in terms of payers available or servers used.

ROF I actually have the boxed set. With DCS I decided to go to the website itself and download since I had heard rumors that the updates to it occurred first from the website, then to Steam at later dates aka lag time  and yes, introducing the Pacific theater would be awesome. Gimmie my Zero!

Same game, different delivery method.
