SCG_Darbzy Posted January 6, 2017 Posted January 6, 2017 Hi All, I've been recording quite a few sorties lately and I often have spare time on my hands so I'm interested in making some videos featuring my IL2 footage. I'm not much of a tech geek so I'm looking for some advice on what software to purchase? I'll need a basic video editing program, some sort of screen capture program for capturing footage from my replays and some sort of voice capture program for narration. (I don't like using apple either) Any suggestions? Thanks in advance! Darbzy
IRRE_Centx Posted January 6, 2017 Posted January 6, 2017 (edited) If you have a NVidia GPU, go download Gefore Experience and use the recorder included in the software, that's the best option (at least for free softwares) With this you can record video and audio. For editing, the best softwares are not free... Personnally I use Sony Vegas, it's a really good software. Pretty user-friendly for beginners, if you just want to do quick editing you don't need a lot of knowledge. And really complete once you master it (and there are a loooooot of tutorials on this software available on google/youtube, so it's easy to find what you want!) Adobe Premiere is another good option for editing, but it's Adobe (= NOOOOT user-friendly for beginners xD) Edited January 6, 2017 by -IRRE-Centx
curiousGamblerr Posted January 6, 2017 Posted January 6, 2017 I can second Fraps for capturing, although I think the free version applies a watermark. The software costs ~$30 and the license last for life I believe. It allows you to take screenshots, video, as well as benchmarking. I bought it ages ago so I've just kept using it. But I would try using the free Nvidia stuff first if possible. For editing, I used to use iMovie, but recently got an Adobe Premiere Pro subscription at a discount, so I've been messing with that. The only video I've finished so far is some gunsight footage. I would agree that Premiere isn't exactly user friendly, but it's like Photoshop- just keep learning specific things via tutorials and you can manage. And it's very powerful. Premiere also has a 7 day trial if you want to give it a shot.
DD_Arthur Posted January 6, 2017 Posted January 6, 2017 I'm a cheapskate so I use Nvidia ShadowPlay for capturing action on the tracks I make. It can also do voice recording. I edit them using Microsoft MovieMaker. It basic, easy to use and free. However, don't use the movie making app that comes with Windows 10. It's awful. Just install the really good one from Windows 7. Get it here; https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/help/14220/windows-movie-maker-download
SCG_Darbzy Posted January 6, 2017 Author Posted January 6, 2017 Okay thanks guys, I'll start with the free stuff and go from there. I'm already familiar with using windows movie maker, so its just the GeForce Experience stuff I'll need to play with to capture the footage. Thanks for the advice! Cheers, Darbz
Apache600 Posted January 7, 2017 Posted January 7, 2017 I also use the Nvidia Shadowplay. For editing, I use Cyberlink Powerdirector. I really like that program. Wasn't to hard for a noob like me to learn. Powerdirector isn't free, but it's not to expensive. I got the audio director with it too, which I like to use for recording all my voice overs. - Apache600
JimTM Posted January 7, 2017 Posted January 7, 2017 (edited) There's an excellent free 3-D editor called Blender that also includes a video editing interface. Mikeycal Meyers has some very good Blender video editing tutorials on YouTube here: https://m.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLjyuVPBuorqIhlqZtoIvnAVQ3x18sNev4 Edited January 7, 2017 by JimTM
LLv32_Korppi Posted February 5, 2017 Posted February 5, 2017 Hi! I record my videos with OBS (Open Broadcast Software). It is free and have more options how you wan't to record compared to fraps. Fraps is also heavier (more fps drops). So if you can choose. I recommend OBS. I edit my videos with adobe premiere elements 14. It takes some time to get used to but it has good tutorials and you can find many tutorials on youtube. Premiere elements also allows you to render and export straight to your youtube channel. (when you are ready just export and share). You can make youtube descriptions etc. in the premiere elements. It has many effects what you can use when you learn them. And I think that if it don't have something already, you can download it. I must say that OBS have also noise gate option to your mic. Fraps don't so it records your mic all the time. It has push to record mic option tho but it does not recognise joystick buttons (like I have my teamspeak push to talk in my pinkie switch. There is few videos in my youtube channel made by elements. First ones are recorded with fraps but 3 or 4 last ones are recorder with obs. Feel free to check them and give feedback.Channel name is same as my nick here.
Mysticpuma Posted February 5, 2017 Posted February 5, 2017 (edited) Shadowplay if you are using Nvidia. Fraps is great but hasn't been updated since 2013 and does generate very large files. Edited February 5, 2017 by Mysticpuma
JimTM Posted May 22, 2017 Posted May 22, 2017 (edited) Just bumping this, because I'm looking for video editing software and MS no longer list the Essentials package with MMM (for win7). Adobe is way too expensive for me, Sony Vegas is too expensive for my current circumstances, is there anything else out there? I just want to just be able to make photo montages let alone Il2 videos. Check out Blender (mentioned above). Watch a few of the tutorials to see if it's what you're after. It's free and it's quite sophisticated. This tutorial may help with your photo montage goal. Thad Posted May 24, 2017 Posted May 24, 2017 Salutations, Video noob question. Can one splice parts of separate videos, with an editor, to form a final combined video.
JimTM Posted May 24, 2017 Posted May 24, 2017 (edited) Salutations, Video noob question. Can one splice parts of separate videos, with an editor, to form a final combined video. Yes. For Blender, check out the following tutorials: - 2 - Blender Video Editing (Importing video) - 4 - Blender Video Editing (Select, Grab, and Cut strips) - 5 - Blender Video Editing (How Channels Work) - 14 - Blender Video Editing (Video & Audio Crossfades / Frame Range Repeat) Edited May 24, 2017 by JimTM
SharpeXB Posted May 24, 2017 Posted May 24, 2017 You can actually edit your tracks in the game's replay mode. Just pause the replay while you change camera angles, forward or rewind etc. and then save.
