II/JG11_ATLAN_VR Posted January 5, 2017 Posted January 5, 2017 (edited) Want to upgrade my GPU from now GTX770 2gb to GTX 970 980 1060 1070 or 1080 also for Future VR Use what GPU would you recommend price and performance wise thx Edited January 5, 2017 by II/JG11ATLAN
ST_Pirato Posted January 5, 2017 Posted January 5, 2017 (edited) Always the best you can afford. I would go for either a GTX 1070 or a GTX 1080. The 970/980 are good cards, but why upgrading to old tech. And for VR the 10XX series of cards would be better anyway. There will be a GTX 1080Ti somewhen this year, maybe if you have the patience wait for this one to arrive. But I bet it is pretty expensive. Maybe the prices of the 1070 and 1080 cards will drop a bit when it is released. Edited January 5, 2017 by ST_Pirato

banPilot Posted January 6, 2017 Posted January 6, 2017 thx for yr answers i think i will go for a gtx1060 gainward 6gb for me here the best choice on german market for 279€ prize and Performance wize For 1080p the AMD RX480 8GB is a better choice and will keep getting better than the 1060. If you're planning on keeping your GPU for several generations go with AMD, if you plan on upgrading your monitor go with AMD for 0$ FreeSync instead of $200+ extra for G-Sync. For 1440p or more get the 1070 though.

banPilot Posted January 6, 2017 Posted January 6, 2017 my Monitor is a LG49LF6309 49´TV full HD and later maybe Oculus rift I really think you should wait then and do a whole PC upgrade. I don't think a 1060 paired with an FX8370 will handle VR well.
BornToBattle Posted January 11, 2017 Posted January 11, 2017 (edited) None of them. I'd wait until spring then pull the trigger on the new 1080ti version NVidia is polishing up right now. I'm not yet sold on the whole 3D thing yet as things need to be improved in the monitor area. But even so, if 3D is your thing the 1080 can handle it no problem. Next gen 3D with the NVidia TITAN even better but the cost is over the top and with the ti version coming out will kind make the TITAN not worth the cost. Edited January 11, 2017 by BornToBattle
BeastyBaiter Posted January 11, 2017 Posted January 11, 2017 I upgraded from a GTX 770 2GB as well a couple weeks ago, ended up with the RX 480 8GB and couldn't be happier with it. It's about the same price as the GTX 1060 but substantially faster in addition to offering multi-gpu support, should you ever decide to go that route. In terms of raw performance, the current generation GPU lineup is as follows (from fastest to slowest): 1) GTX 1080 2) GTX 1070 3) RX 480 8GB 4) RX 480 4GB 5) GTX 1060 6GB 6) RX 470 8GB 7) RX 470 4GB 8) GTX 1060 3GB 9) GTX 1050TI 10) RX 460 11) GTX 1050 This raw performance isn't everything of course, AMD cards have less efficient DX11 drivers and so they aren't achieving their full potential at this time in either BoS or DCS, but they are getting better it seems. And the raw performance advantage they have seems to compensate for the inferior DX11 drivers. It's worth mentioning they have superior DX12 and Vulcan drivers though, so if you play other games too, then the RX 480 is the clear winner. There is nothing close about it, the GTX 1060 is not a competitive product at its current price point the instant you leave DX11. 1
kestrel79 Posted January 11, 2017 Posted January 11, 2017 Think about an RX 480 8GB, but waiting for the new AMD cards to come out I think...
=TBAS=Sshadow14 Posted January 12, 2017 Posted January 12, 2017 FX8370 @ Stock clocks will struggle to fully use any GTX above 8xx really. (you will never see 99% GPu usage before you see 99% CPu usage aka bottle necking.Even the FX8350 @ 4.4Ghz (Mine) Bottlenecks on a GTX960 SOC when its maxed out on Valley benchmark and others.Im a big AMD fan (never had an intel)But if you are wanting to run GTX10XX (a good card and not a cheap one) you will need a good intel
