Beautiful work, absolutely stunning thanks. :)

Forgive my ignorance, but will this be changed with bump maps, or we can change those separately. Is someone re doing the bump maps for most planes?

I have tried exporting this to .PSD Photoshop file but it ends up missing layers.  Any hints on how to export from Gimp to PSD?

Thanks

Posted

Yes any layer groups GIMP compresses into a single layer when exporting to PSD. Easiest way is to open it in gimp, empty all layer groups into their constituent layers, and then export as PSD.

I will try that, thanks

Hey all,

I'm sorry I did not take the individual *.pngs out of the Layer groups for a PS conversion. I always mess stuff like this up, and layers end up miss aligned somehow.

This is a good question. I have made a Normal Map, (I think Bump Map was an earlier version of the Normal Map, not 100% sure on that tho), I'm wondering if this effects other maps as well? Other maps include: Displacement, specular, diffused, ambient occlusion Maps. Do they all relate to one another? My guess..  possibly yes, I'm not an expert.

When I started this template, I mainly followed the Wire frame layer and worked from the Original template.

There for it should be close to the original

Hey all, I've updated some layers in the link.

There was some minor changes to the panel lines layer, windows, and stock alpha layer. In future I will just add the layers separately, as the download is rather large. Apologies for any inconvenience.

Boomerang,

Can i ask what font you used for the "3" in the template - ive been looking for that typeface for a while but cannot find anything that replicated like yours does.

Thanks

Hi BOO,

The No 3 I made, it's not a font bud, that's why you cant find it.

If anyone you happens to find any good reference images of historical patterns, feel free to post them.

I forgot to mention, the No 3 is within the latest template download. All additional layers will be added separately as *.pngs within the same Link folder for this template.

Hopefully this way, it will be more compatible for all different types of software folks are using.

Think I have discovered  a more advanced method of editing the Normal Map Layer via grain merge. When satisfied with the result, Ill add the *.dds within the same Link.

Thanks for being patient, I love these birds like you all do, sometimes I discover new things and correct them as I go, its been quite the adventure in the learning for me.

Thanks Boomerang - since that was the only number causing me problems im really glad you made it!!!!

One more question (sorry) - the circular access panel on the LHS of the fuse (in the section numbered 8) isnt drawn in but is on the original bump map - I take it that it was never there IRL and has been left out for that reason?

Thanks

The circular access panel.. oh yes, I did not draw that in as the reference I used  did not have one either. I would be happy to draw it in if you wish.

No worries - if it wasnt there in the reference thats good enough for me. I notices all the new 109 templates leave it out and was more curious than anything

Attention, Attention,

Dear folks,

I have updated all files within the link below. It's important these files are replaced, as they will marry with the original Normal map better.

If you downloaded the Bf109G2_Public4k.xcf @ 277MB after you have read this post, you will not need to do anything else.

For folks that have the older version of the above file, (in which was updated just before I wrote this post), you will need to either download the Updates.psd or Udates.xcf and replace the older files with a simular name. It's important you do this, as it will marry to the Original Normal Map much Better. Truth be known, I discovered a mistake I made, and this effected other the other layers that related to this mistake.

I will include a Newer Normal Map in the near future, make sure you back the original Dev Normal Map up.

Thanks very much! Works equally well with the G-4 but I'm not sure how well the panel lines match up.

Yes I looked at this again and your right. I'm currently working on a Newer Normal Map. I have investigated another way of viewing the Normal Map within an 3D viewer now, so it should be easier to see what is going on. I'm trying not to loose the metal texture within the original Normal Map, (to save time), while updating lines and some rivets which have changed slightly from the original. There must be a Layer we did not receive that relates to the Normal Map possibly?.

In the original template, some of the panel lines where shaded, and this has a different effect within those areas from what I have discovered.

Reference and worked from: The Original Wire Layer, Original Layer and also Photo References.

I have not found any Blue Print Rivet/Panel Line pattern layouts to date, so it was decided to work from the original.

Many layers have been reproduced and this has been very time consuming, especially when they can relate to one another.

Please be aware: This is the first time I have tried something like this. For me it's been a journey of discovery, investigation and learning, so you will need to bare with me. In saying that, I'm also happy if folks are wishing to participate with this work as well. I feel there is nothing wrong with team work, the communication just needs to be good, and folks need to be clear on what there working on as not to double up on the work load.

Other templates folks are doing, and have finished are excellent, They can do them much more efficiently than what I can.

The G-4 you have illustrated, I have not sighted yet, a guess is it's very much the same template as the G-2?

Like your work, looks excellent, it could be added as a skin layer for other people if you wish, let me know if your interested or assisting in any other way with this work as well. This also applies to anyone else.

I read on another Post Jason may pay people for the work and I would only suggest: Whom ever participates with this template, and if were lucky enough to get the offer of $pendooler$ (via Jason W), to give it back to the community as either a: BOS, BOM, BOK of their choice like in a competition of some kind that draws broader interest.

Also, for all those whom participate within this Project, I would also suggest: Politely asking the Dev's to give us a mention, (if this template is good enough). Besides making it the best template it can be, would benefit us all with more folks on deck.

Re possible Team Work: I'm not into power plays, arguments or anything that relates to wasted energy either. just though Id mention that, but I do appreciate constructive honesty.

Regards,

Boomerang

I believe Jason was referencing the Templates rather than paintjobs Boomerang.

Given your template is more than a match for the quality of the original (im being as diplomatic as i can be here) 2K skins id be asking for money mate!

I also expect to ICDP driving around in a something flashy soon too! :-)

Looking at the G4 from the viewer, the templates varies only a small amount (tailwheel infill, a removed line of rivets over the wheel bulge, re positioned radio line and a different access panel on the fuse. I sent Detcord a 2K template id based on the G4 for his reference, happy to pass it on to you if you think it would be of some use.

The 2K texturemap for the G4 should also show any changes.

BTW On your current template i noticed the shadows under the intakes on the cowel for cooling the spark plugs and the intake on the LHS canopy quarter panel are missing. No biggy but it i thought id mention it.

Hey BOO pass anything on mate, be more than happy to get your input :salute:

I will try and update the files online in a day or so, and also supply a Normal map to match what I have amended to date. Below are a couple of different variations of the Normal Map. These Normal Maps have RGB Channels and mipmaps.

Nice too see you're still continuing on it. For the normalmap 4 sample works best for me (other's are too intense) with scale between 1.5 to 3 dpending on the level of detail of the specific parts.

It's also better to go easy on it first because it's very easily overdone and might cause some ultrashiny reflections.

Yes I liked the 4 sample selection as well. I think 1.5, 2.0 and 3.0 on the scaling is where it's most appealing for this type of Map, and may decide on 2.0.

Thanks again for you input, and the reference you suggested has been most helpful. I may postpone uploading the update I mentioned earlier, as more changes have been made now that the Normal Map is available to work from. I have moved some rivets around, and amended panel lines again.

Thankyou 5tuka

Regarding this G-2 template:

I have created a folder called: "Community Layer Contributions" within the Link just above.

This is a place were fellow community members can share added Layers for this template, (just PM me).

I would like to thank 4./JG52_BOO, for the "Overall wear streaks" Layer provided within the Link.

Hello Boomerang

The layer i sent you hasnt scaled up right - if you give me a bit of time ill rework it to match your template. Perhaps in the meantime it would be better yo remove the download.

Cheers

Hi all,

Just need to inform, I am needing to put this project on hold for now, as I have other commitments that need my attention. If folks are willing to continue with this project, I don't have an issue with that at all. Time is needed to make this great, and unfortunately I'm spread to thin with this already.

Hope you understand.
