javelina Posted January 2, 2017 Posted January 2, 2017 I'm really enjoying flying BoX. I just picked up BoM, (couldn't pass up the Winter Sale). E-7 is a lot of fun! I'm sure this has been discussed, and not trying to dig up or spur anything. To me, Sound is one of the most immersive elements for flight sims. I'm hoping in the future we'll be able add some engine sound updates. That would be the final icing for IL-2. Hence, with my sim rig I'm pumping everything out to a Yamaha 5.1 A/V receiver (when not in MP). Love hearing the sub-woofer kick in! Happy New Year to all. Hope we see some great additions. Thank you Devs for all of your efforts! -Jav
Roo5ter Posted January 3, 2017 Posted January 3, 2017 Id just be happy if the cannons got a new sound effect. The 37mm sound so wimpy!
Jade_Monkey Posted January 3, 2017 Posted January 3, 2017 It will all be possible when mods on is implemented.
Roo5ter Posted January 5, 2017 Posted January 5, 2017 I'm surprised you don't have more people supporting this idea. The game has come so far from the first iteration and the sound is one area where I think we can all agree the game is definitely still lagging. 1
Jade_Monkey Posted January 5, 2017 Posted January 5, 2017 According to Jason, you will be able to change sounds when mods are introduced in the future. That includes engine sounds and guns. Now we only need someone who can create these sounds.
ShamrockOneFive Posted January 6, 2017 Posted January 6, 2017 I think the sounds are already pretty good although certainly not world beating. There's a distinction between "better sounds" which is more or less subjective and "better sound" which would be a more detailed implementation of different types of sounds, layers of sounds, etc. above and beyond what we have now. It also may involve processing sounds differently and splitting out to more channels as sound system allow. The biggest problem here is that most gamers (and I include flight simmers in this) will spend a lot on their rigs but not a ton on their sound system. I bought a $150 5.1 Altec Lansing system back in 2004 and I'm still using it. It's decent but I have a really nice Polk Audio setup for my home theater that is so much better. So there is only so much that developers will do to get the best sounds... some folks are still listening through a cheap $30-40 2.0 or 2.1 setup.
unreasonable Posted January 6, 2017 Posted January 6, 2017 Sounds are important but also seem to be very subjective, and modders do not always make things better. For instance, I recall the old Il-2 in game engine sounds as being excellent because they gave you great feedback about what your plane and engine were doing, and according to many pilots, prop tip noise is much of what you can hear in a cockpit of this kind off plane. Then the modders decided that the sound was nothing like the sounds they record externally in airshows, and created mods that did - but in doing so lost nearly all of the feedback. Awful - and why I never really got into modded Il-2. (While it was said to be possible to get the Il-2 mod packs to work without the "improved" sounds, in practice I could not). Then we have the gun sounds, where modders really could make things better - or the devs could simply give us the old sounds back as an option. Anyone who has fired a machine gun wearing ear defenders and a helmet (ie similar to a flight helmet with earpieces) would know that the original BoX gun sounds were much more convincing than the recently released "improved" sounds. Gun sounds in these planes should be mainly about vibration, ie bass. The HF sounds are largely blocked to the pilot. They would not and could not sound like someone ripping paper as they do now. I have only just got my rig running again after a long period of being grounded for various reasons. The new release works well on my nvidea 780, because I have really, really old drivers The game runs silky smooth on Ultra at 60 fps, looks great, I can remember how to fly, so I line up on the train in the quick mission take off scenario, press the tit..... awful, simply awful. Ruins the experience. So bring on the mods - cannot happen soon enough for me.

=GW=xshinel Posted May 26, 2017 Posted May 26, 2017 It will all be possible when mods on is implemented. When will the mods on? I cant tolerrant the sound of P40's .50 cal...
Feathered_IV Posted May 28, 2017 Posted May 28, 2017 I'm waiting for the mods-on mode too. Although I'm not sure how much it will help with my own personal gripe sheet: The maddeningly repetitive AI speech and gigantic on-screen text.
