Sogamg Posted January 2, 2017 Posted January 2, 2017 Hello to all and happy new year!!!Well I have a problem starting PWCG.I downloaded the PWCGBoS 2.1.2 zip file.I extracted it and the folder "PWCGCampaign" is here C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\IL-2 Sturmovik Battle of Stalingrad\PWCGCampaignI found the startup.cfg and chaged the "mission_text_log = 1".I also downlaoded the latest java for win7x64 that I have. The thing is whenever I try to start with admin privileges the PWCGBos.exe it seems that the program is running for a second ,then it closes, then again it runs for a second etc.It needs to be closed from task manager. It does not appear in the applications tab but only in the prosesses. So that is it!!! Any help is appreciated thanks in advance!!!
Taxman Posted January 2, 2017 Posted January 2, 2017 Sogamg, there maybe 2 issues here. 1. Your install looks good, but running with "admin privileges" might be an issue. I have a direct install not Steam but your install looks good. 2. Are you using Google? If so Google and Java have issues. When installing to my Win 7 version this was a big hassle. Hope you get PWCG working, great program.
Sogamg Posted January 2, 2017 Author Posted January 2, 2017 Is there a way to resolve this conflict between Chrome and Java,if there is a conflict?Running as admin I think is the only way to start the program.
Taxman Posted January 2, 2017 Posted January 2, 2017 I cannot confirm if I run as admin my install has a short cut to desk top I just double click and it starts. As for the conflict between Chrome and Java you could look it up. My tech guy fixed it for me, and stated that it was a hassle, I did try, but with no luck. BTW my Java install is version 8 update 11, build 1.8.0-111-b14 . Check and see what version you have, my guess is that you have an older version.
Bando Posted January 3, 2017 Posted January 3, 2017 I vaguely remember I started up Edge (only to install Java). Once installed it's ok.
Yogiflight Posted January 3, 2017 Posted January 3, 2017 Wasn't it also, that you need the 64bit version, instead of the default 32bit version of JAVA? I think, I remember, to have downloaded the 64bit version for PWCG.
Sogamg Posted January 3, 2017 Author Posted January 3, 2017 I downloaded and installed the latest java version for 64 systems. The exact same thing happens.I simply cannot play PWCG. Well thanks for your help anyway I tried a lot (I think)but to no avail.

PatrickAWlson Posted January 4, 2017 Posted January 4, 2017 64 bit latest Java was a good suggestion. Other suggestions: does the PWCG error log (ErrorLog.txt in PWCG main directory) contain anything? If yes, please post the contents. Next suggestion is run PWCG.exe from the command line (cmd). If it is a Java issue quite often the command line will tell you what the problem is.
Sogamg Posted January 4, 2017 Author Posted January 4, 2017 As it seems is that the javaw program is running and closing in one second repeatedly.Sorry for this...No error log is generated in the main directory. When I try to start the program from command line it does the exact same thing.Javaw.exe open and closes multiple times but nothing more.
Taxman Posted January 4, 2017 Posted January 4, 2017 Sogamg, Are you using Google Chrome as your internet browser? If so that is the problem. Google it, pun intended, but there is a very serious conflict between the latest Java and Google Chrome. There are several articles about this conflict I think you need to look them up. One of the suggested fixes is using a different web browser i.e. Internet Explorer in order to install the latest Java. Once Java is installed using a browser other then Google Chrome, and you have it working, then you start using Google again. Sorry for the long winded post but as I stated above and in an earlier post "Google Chrome and the latest Java" have issues. There are work around's but you need to search it out as I did. Good luck
Sogamg Posted January 5, 2017 Author Posted January 5, 2017 (edited) Thanks to all of you for your help and answers.Really appreciated.Taxman I uninstalled Google Chrome, installed java at internet explorer and at mozzilla ,32 bit version, 64 bit version, both.Nothing seems to work.I guess java for some reason is problematic at my system for reasons that might be beyond my limited programmingskills.Good thing is that i found a really helpful community,I know now that if I run at a problem I will find people that are willing to help, either way I like this game very much (old fan of il-1946).I dont think that there is anything else to try or to do..so see you around!!! Taxman Posted January 5, 2017 Posted January 5, 2017 Sogamg, Sorry that you cannot get PWCG working. I do hope that the new scripted campaigns will work for you. As far as scripted campaigns 1 is payware and there are 2 free ones. Juri has just updated 2 of his prior scripted campaigns to now work with version 2.006, also worth a look. Good flying.
