TG-55Panthercules Posted January 1, 2017 Posted January 1, 2017 (edited) Was flying a simple QMB on a free flight out of an airfield close to the eastern-most edge of the Moscow winter map to check out the recent update, and started noticing some small white specks in the sky to the east. At first I thought that they were just scratches/defects in my cockpit glass, but then I realized I was flying an I-16 and I wasn't looking through any cockpit glass. They seem to be present over the area of the map that's just beyond where the game starts telling you to turn around because you're leaving the combat area. Anybody else notice this, or have an explanation why they are appearing now? (I don't remember ever seeing them before the latest update, but I haven't spent much time at the very edge of the map so maybe they've been there before?) [edit] it looks a bit like weird snow in the screenshot, but it doesn't look at all like snow when actually flying the mission. Edited January 1, 2017 by TG-55Panthercules
ShamrockOneFive Posted January 1, 2017 Posted January 1, 2017 Definitely some Foo Fighters going on there! That's pretty weird and I just spent a couple of missions recently flying very close to Moscow. I didn't see them... then again, maybe they choose to invade your virtual Moscow first :D
SvAF/F19_Tomten Posted January 1, 2017 Posted January 1, 2017 I've not seen it but.. I want to believe!
Jade_Monkey Posted January 1, 2017 Posted January 1, 2017 (edited) Like they said, barrage balloons. They are also available in the ME Edited January 1, 2017 by Jade_Monkey
TG-55Panthercules Posted January 2, 2017 Author Posted January 2, 2017 (edited) Barrage ballons, eh? Guess I'll try reflying the mission at a different time of day and see how the sun angle/reflection changes things. How high do barrage balloons usually "fly"? I was at 1,000m, so some of these things look like they're pretty high. [EDIT] - yep, sure enough - zoomed in this time with the sun off at a different angle and saw that they are indeed barrage balloons. Thanks for clearing that up - was getting worried about my v-card. ShamrockOneFive Posted January 2, 2017 Posted January 2, 2017 Confirmed! They are barrage balloons! I'm not sure what altitude they are at but I'm guessing 1500 meters or 2000 meters?
Dakpilot Posted January 2, 2017 Posted January 2, 2017 Kind Soviet soldiers taking pet baby barrage balloons for morning walk Moscow 1941 Cheers Dakpilot 4
Blutaar Posted January 3, 2017 Posted January 3, 2017 Damn, i thought it was some "Haunebuh IIIs or other Reichsflugscheiben" but i think its to early for these, they should be ingame in Battle of Neuschwabenland/Antarctica.
Uufflakke Posted January 3, 2017 Posted January 3, 2017 ... That's cool. When I zoomed in very closely I happened to see something else. Pigs in Spaaaace. image hosting free 3

From an account of German Bomber pilot, he said Barrage balloons were encountered up to 4500M at Moscow as opposed to 2200M over London Cheers Dakpilot
