Stephen_Hawqinz Posted December 30, 2016 Posted December 30, 2016 First of all: WHY doesnt this game start in fullscreen mode, like almost every game does? I cant seem to figure out the point of it not starting in fullscreen so if anyone knows, please enlighten this sad soul of mine. Sad? Yes. Because I FINALLY could afford to buy BoS which I have yearned for since day one. I even bought a joystick JUST for this game. Well, the joke is on me apparently because the game doesnt work. As I mentioned, the game doesnt start in fullscreen. Be that as it may but I discovered (since the ol´alt+enter trick didnt work) that you could change it to fullscreen in settings. So I click on "Fullscreen" and the game tells me to restart for the changes to be applied. So thats what I did and now it doesnt start at all. INSTANT crash. First I get a D3D ERROR box saying Fullscreen mode is not available DXGI_STATUS_OCCLUDED and then the usual ".. has stopped working bla bla". I HAVE searched the forum but cant seem to find any solution and the only time this problem is mentioned it is in connection with HTC VIVE VR, which I dont use. Please help or I will have to return this game and be stuck with a joystick I can neither return and get my money back nor use because Im not interested in any other flight simulator. My setup is Windows 8.1 Intel® Core i5-4460 CPU @ 3.20GHz 8gb RAM NVIDIA GeForce GTX 750 Enclosed is a CrashDUmp and screenshot. Thank you for your time Il-2.exe.5792.zip
Dakpilot Posted December 30, 2016 Posted December 30, 2016 What is wrong with using borderless windowed? do you have any reason for needing to run full screen, you cannot physically see the difference and it negates the need for Vsync Is it possible the change back to windowed in the startup.cfg file found in Data folder, change in notepad [KEY = graphics] adapter = 0 bloom_enable = 0 desktop_center = 1 detail_rt_res = 4096 fps_counter = 0 fps_limit = 0 full_height = 1080 full_width = 1920 fullscreen = 0 gamma = 1.00000 grass_distance = 300.00000 hdr_enable = 0 land_tex_lods = 3 mgpu_compatible = 0 multisampling = 0 or_enable = 0 or_ipd = 1.00000 or_lens_offs = 1.00000 preset = 3 ssao_enable = 1 vsync = 0 win_height = 2160 win_width = 3840 This is the reason, waiting for Nvidia to release updated driver for DX11, posted in IMPORTANT NOTES for patch 2.06 2. Please note that nVidia profile for the game is for DirectX 9, so there may be issues in full screen mode and/or while using GeForce experience utility. If you encounter graphics issues in full screen mode, please try switching ot windowed mode and/or turning off GeForce experience until this profile is updated. It didnt work to change from 0 to 1 in the setup file. Same thing happened when I did that, crash and same error message. I DID actually read the update notes but apparently I didnt "get it" about nVidia and DX. Now, as to why I want fullscreen is because it kills the experience to have to watch my desktop in the background, plus I like to see a bigger picture. The question now is if I should return it or keep it and hope that this problem is fixed rather quick (or fixed at all)? Its a tough choice. Any way, thank you again and take care.
Dakpilot Posted January 1, 2017 Posted January 1, 2017 If your game resolution is the same as your native monitor resolution which normally is your desktop resolution, windowed mode has exactly the same look as full screen There is no border or desktop visible. What is your monitor native (max) resolution What is your desktop resolution and what resolution are you launching the game in? are you able to launch the game in windowed mode Fullscreen =0 Cheers Dakpilot
MajorZero Posted January 2, 2017 Posted January 2, 2017 (edited) I have the same issues but i have an HD7850 Edited January 2, 2017 by markitali

I dont know the resolution but it says 1080i 60 GHZ when I start it. Im so sorry for being so technologically deficient and inconvinient, but I cant keep up with the technical aspects of a PC anymore. Any way, my desktop resolution is 1768x992 (1920x1080 is recommended but a bit of the desktop goes outside and off screen in that resolution). While I was writing this, I tried altering the resolution to 1768x992 in the startup file, that didnt work, but hey, how stupid am I? Of course I should change the resolution IN GAME. I did and I choose 1920x1080 and low and behold, it got to "Fullscreen" as in windowed but no borders. The only problem with that is the same issue as with 1920x1080 setting on my desktop. That is a bit of the picture goes "off screen". But beggars cant be chosers and I doubt that the bits of the picture missing will affect the game too much. Probably not at all. So, now I can keep the game, practice and maybe one day fly with other people online. If I dare to. Not every great pilot/gamer (such as yourself) are as kind and understanding/helpful as you Dakpilot. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!! I REALLY appreciate it. If I can do something for you in the future, let me know. Thank you again. You are a really nice and helpful guy. All the best //Stefan of Sweden
Dakpilot Posted January 4, 2017 Posted January 4, 2017 There should be some settings in TV menu for aspect ratio to set to 'just scan' or 'dot by dot' also you want to be set to 1080P rather than 1080i this should allow you to have Desktop and game at 1920 x 1080 without losing any screen area Cheers Dakpilot

I will fiddle a bit with the TV and see what magic (or chaos) I might pull off, Cheers (or Skål in swedish)
Beazil Posted January 5, 2017 Posted January 5, 2017 Your TV may have a section for "overscan" that can be turned off. Also make sure your Nvidia drivers are set to full aspect. It's one of the options in your Nvidia control panel. Not at my pic or I would try 5th give you better instruction. Good luck.
FlyingH Posted January 7, 2017 Posted January 7, 2017 Is your "startup.cfg" set to "read only"? Or is your game installed into "programs folder"? Those 2 things can be the reason you can´t change to fullscreen! (You may also need to run the program as "administrator")
ACEDavidCavanagh Posted April 7, 2018 Posted April 7, 2018 Hey Stephen Hawqinz have the same problem .Unable to play the game any bigger than 1280 +720. I wont be buying the new map and planes Kuban till they fix it. But I wrote to tell you I too used to use a TV as a monitor and found that if I set the 60hrz to 61 in the graphic card controls it fixed the going of the edge of the screen problem.
