LuftAsher Posted December 29, 2016 Posted December 29, 2016 After the most recent patch, I'm unable to start the game. As soon as I click play, the following error pops up: Verified game cache and all that jazz, still no luck. My I run Windows 7 and it is build 7601 exactly. I used to have update KB2670838 but uninstalled it ages ago as it causes frequent crashes on Cliffs of Dover. Not having that update was never an issue with Battle of Stalingrad until now, and I've owned the game since Christmas of 2014. Processor: Intel® Core i5-4440 CPU @ 3.10GHz Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 555 Memory: 8 GB Windows: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium Edition Service Pack 1 (build 7601), 64-bit Any help would be greatly appreciated.
BOO Posted December 29, 2016 Posted December 29, 2016 Hi BOS's move to DX11 requires the update. Various CLOD players are reporting no issue now but some still are. Try it and see. Regards BOO
AndyJWest Posted December 29, 2016 Posted December 29, 2016 (edited) Haven't you already answered your own question? The error message says you need build KB2670838. You have uninstalled it. The problem is with CloD, not BOS. If BoS worked before, it was presumably because whatever KB2670838 does only matters with DX11. You can't expect developers to support obsolete OS versions that break new code. Edited December 29, 2016 by AndyJWest

That's fair enough, but surely you can understand why I'd try to seek a solution to fixing this game without having to break another. My hope is that there is some kind of workaround.

Missed it, but it's hard to argue with that. The unit I fly with runs its official campaign on Cliffs of Dover and isn't going to stop any time soon. It's a damn shame I have to choose one or the other.
BOO Posted December 29, 2016 Posted December 29, 2016 Try it mate - i think a few are saying its working for them without killing Clod even with win 7 - you can always uninstall it (or pick your game for the short term). Slightly longer term it may not matter given that CLoD is also likely to go all DX11 soonish too (and im sure TF can now sort any issues anyhow) Then there's DCS 2.5 in 2017 - another DX11 based environment.. In the meantime theres nowt to stop you installing and uninstalling it if you fancy a day or a week on one then a bit of time with the other...(said the actress to the bi....) Not sure any of the "Win10 is the devil's work and will steal you children in the night" naysayers thought about any of this last July when it was free but it seems so much has happened in 12 months to make once diehard fans of one now consider and enjoy the other i think few foresaw this potential (albeit temporary and possibly even non-existent) conflict with the games.. Best of luck Regards BOO 1

Best of luck Regards BOO I'll give it a go with Cliffs and hope to hell it works. It's gonna be a bad time if it doesn't, though. BoS is my "Y'know what, I think I'll fly" sim that I pick up for a couple of hours of fun whenever the mood strikes me, while the more regular, structured stuff happens on Cliffs. Having to hotswap updates seems like a major hassle, though it seems like it might be unavoidable. Win10's a bit of an odd one for me. I have it on the laptop I use for uni and I'm really not all that fond of it. I'm not sure how to describe it apart from that it feels awkward while 7 doesn't, though that's a matter of preference, I suppose. The sneaky stuff MS pulled, like ninja-installing it when people weren't looking and other such follies. I had to interrupt it in the middle of an OS update I never asked for because one day it just kinda decided that free well is overrated, so I'm a bit biased against it just on principle. I'll probably come around in a couple of years ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Anyways, I'll see what I can figure out. Cheers.
Jabo2009 Posted February 5, 2017 Posted February 5, 2017 Guys, Isnt there any workaround or "trick" to get the game running without installing Windows update 7601 ? Pls help me out ! I stopped the windows updates on my gaming computer since day one, and it was the best decision ever... my PC is giving me a joy since 2012 , since then not a single Windows update ( because of bad experiences in the past - pre 2012) ´and everything is fine. I hate the thought of doing all the windows 7 updates just because Il-2 BOS , although I miss it badly. Running WIN 7 Home Edition 65 Bit
BOO Posted February 5, 2017 Posted February 5, 2017 Build 7601 was SP1 from sommat like 2011 i think - Regardless of any other update you need KB2670838 to run BOS in win 7 - no workaround as certain DX11 components use it. Have you tried just selecting that update? A few Clod gamers i know are saying that the KB patch no longer causes them problems - (some do however) - perhaps something came along later to fix it (for those who still allowed updates) - i dunno - all you can do is try it - if it dont work, uninstall it. Pretty soon Clod will probably be DX11 too.

So you mean I can simply install this update only ? my estiamtion was that I need to install all the dozens of updates first , before I can install KB2670838
