Uriah Posted December 2, 2013 Posted December 2, 2013 I imagine reaching out my hand in the air and with a particular movement a switch or lever in the plane would move.
71st_AH_Hooves Posted December 2, 2013 Posted December 2, 2013 Inevitable someone will bring this thing up. https://www.leapmotion.com/ But it has already kinda been shown not to work very well at all. I can see these guys doing something though, http://sixense.com/hardware/wireless. Though this is for a different application I could see a glove being developed that both tracks your motion and provides haptic feedback for the "click" of a switch. But honestly though Id just rather get some buttons at home that are in roughly the same spots and just reach out and switch them for real. When I get my HD Rift someday Ill be very happy about where VR and flight sims are going! 1
FuriousMeow Posted December 2, 2013 Posted December 2, 2013 I think a programmable touch screen device that has icons on it which could be clicked to perform key commands, or rolled over to act as sliders/axis/rotaries, would be great. With a simpit, a couple of them could be positioned in appropriate areas to cover most toggles/switches/buttons located near that area to provide somewhat of real life switch/axis/etc manipulation.
Zoring Posted December 2, 2013 Posted December 2, 2013 I much prefer clicking to waving my hand vaguely about, would just make you tired, plus no tactile feedback, anyway clicking the buttons becomes instinctive after a while, just, drop flaps, radiator open, click click click

So having to learn more than just the FM, for myself, would be slightly more than I want. But that is just me.
II./JG27_Rich Posted December 2, 2013 Posted December 2, 2013 What about an arm and hand instead of a curser?
[JG2]R7_Blackadder Posted December 2, 2013 Posted December 2, 2013 In the end it's just a Theremin but would be a great idea along with OR... 1
Furio Posted December 2, 2013 Posted December 2, 2013 THis +1 I live in my own little cockpit when I fly. So having to learn more than just the FM, for myself, would be slightly more than I want. But that is just me. I understand you. In real life, I’m used to reach many commands by touch alone. Flaps lever and trim wheel are examples. It comes handy when you need to adjust trim while keeping your eyes on the runway in bad visibility. However, this is a game, and all tastes should be satisfied with as many options as development costs allow.
Sternjaeger Posted December 2, 2013 Posted December 2, 2013 have a look at this guys https://www.thalmic.com/en/myo/
Mogster Posted December 2, 2013 Posted December 2, 2013 The problem is that in real life you feel for a control, in VR you can't do that yet. You end up fishing around with your mouse pointer, I suspect the Leapmotion would be even worse. I prefer having frequently used stuff mapped to my HOTAS.
