Mewt Posted December 22, 2016 Posted December 22, 2016 Heya I've got a Saitek 3 Axis Throttle Quadrant that I use for Mixture, Oil and Water. I'd like to map both inlet and outlet cowls for the La5 to the quadrant too. I initially thought about mapping BOTH inlet and outlet to the Water lever, the thinking that no radial engine will be water cooled. However after a few flights I really can see that I want to be able to map both the inlet and outlet independently of each other. Are there an inherent problems mapping on of them to the same level as Oil? e.g. Inlet + Water Outlet + Oil or Inlet + Oil Out + Water Or to put my question another way; In order to double up controls, is there any problem with opening the oil radiator sync'd together with either inlet or outlet cowls?
Sokol1 Posted December 22, 2016 Posted December 22, 2016 No, since you can use one axis (or key, or button) to do more than one function. If this arrange is practical in flight for properly control of the engine is other history.
Matt Posted December 22, 2016 Posted December 22, 2016 I would bind oil cooler and inlet to the same axis and outlet together with water radiator. Works best, because in a idle power dive, you should close both oil cooler and inlet and otherwise leave both open. Compared to that, water radiator and outlet flaps need to be adjusted almost constantly to get the best performance.
