I-16 Cannons

Is the I-16 more stable without its cannons? I feel like I've had better luck flying it without them. With them I've noticed more snap rolling and less maneuverability. Maybe it's just me or is this true?

I fly the i16 a lot and to be honest I don't notice a difference, well at least of the order of say when adding cannons to the 109\190. The only downside I find to the i16 cannons is that they run out really quick¡

It could be possible... the weight of the cannons on the wings is going to have some sort of impact on the handling. It may cause some small differences in roll rate but I suppose other attributes could be affected as well.

I wouldnt know because i never take it without the cannons.

What a great plane, too bad its only good in a furball. If anyone wants to escape they just have to go on a straight line.

The cannon barrels also protrude quite far out from the leading edge. That will no doubt cause extra drag and turbulence with increasing AoA, making the aircraft less effective in a banking turn and loop.

Interestingly, I don't take the 20mm option anymore on the I 16.

The 4 machine guns seem effective enough on single seaters, and the extended firing time compared to the 20mm is worth it to me.

I do think the 20mm guns do have an effect on handling,  They are heavier and all things being equal, do have an effect.

You never take off wings with the Mgs, but you don't have to.  Get a burst into the radiators and the belly of a 109 and it's done, even if your opponent doesn't quite realize is yet.

True. The 4xShKAS spew out around 120 bullets per second. Some of those are bound to hit something important.

I like the good ol 20mm bullet in the wing root that rips it off

It is amusing, be sure!
