Mmaruda Posted December 21, 2016 Posted December 21, 2016 (edited) So the new patch has dropped and some people have issues. Here is a quick and dirty guide that might help (or not, but no harm in trying). First, make sure you have DX11 installed. If you are not sure, download it and install anyway. For Nvidia users who are experiencing driver crashes (display driver has stopped working etc.) - go into Nvidia display driver settings and navigate to 'help' tab (last one), check "debug mode". What this does is sets the GPU's clocks to stock values - factory overclocked cards sometimes have issues like this. If you are experiencing low performance on Nvidia (for example your GTX 970 is not pushing a solid 60 FPS at ALL times), go to Nvidia display driver settings, select 'manage 3d setting' and scroll down to 'power management mode'; select "prefer maximum performance". NV added a new setting for 10xx series cars calles "optimal power"... it's rubbish and slows your card down to save power. GTX 5xx series owner and DX11 - you might be having issues and it's NVs fault. The 5xx series wasn't really doing all that well on DX11 because these cards had problems pushing proper voltages. You might want to use something like MSI afterburner to adjust those, but make sure to check what are the proper voltages for your card (google is your friend). Alternatively, you might want to flash your card's BIOS (refer to manufacturer's page). Also, you might altogether be screwed, if you ever had the 331.82 driver - these have been known to damage GTX 580s in some way sometimes. Other stuff you might want to look into: 1. get rid of GeForce Experience 2. try disabling driver telemetry 3. disable NV streaming services Last but not least and this applies to AMD users as well, seriously consider getting rid of your current driver and installing an older one. People are obsessed with having the latest drivers, but quite often something gets screwed up with each update. EDIT: I know this is all very general, but I am stuck at work, so if something is not clear, just ask. Edited December 21, 2016 by Mmaruda 3
Mesha44 Posted December 21, 2016 Posted December 21, 2016 Can anyone that is not having the confetti issue with an AMD card post their driver version number. I think that would help a few people out.
216th_Peterla Posted December 21, 2016 Posted December 21, 2016 I'll take a look later. I got 60 fps steady but I should have more with a 980oc I try your tips. I'll post when done. Regards
Mmaruda Posted December 21, 2016 Author Posted December 21, 2016 Remember, you will not get more than 60 with Vsync on. Can anyone that is not having the confetti issue with an AMD card post their driver version number. I think that would help a few people out. I have seen someone with a 7xxx series card saying they have no issue - I would assume it's either the newer cards that have something wrong, or the newer drivers. Also, it might be a good idea to fiddle with settings with this bloatware. Also I would not be very surprised if using pre-Crimson drivers produced better results (or more setting to fiddle with).
216th_Peterla Posted December 21, 2016 Posted December 21, 2016 Yeap, if I remove vsync the game jumps to 145 fps. I need to do more checks. In menus the game drops to 30-40 and when logging drops to 2 fps.

AstrixAU Posted December 23, 2016 Posted December 23, 2016 (edited) Can anyone that is not having the confetti issue with an AMD card post their driver version number. I think that would help a few people out. It's been fixed, it wasn't died to driver as far as I know. I think it was caused by newer architecture done things different. They just didn't have a card to test it and debug off. There were a few things AMD has changed recently over the last year. Different GCN version will have new ways of doing things, what works on Nvidia might not be ideal for AMD due to architecture differences. Yeap, if I remove vsync the game jumps to 145 fps. I need to do more checks. In menus the game drops to 30-40 and when logging drops to 2 fps. Have you tried using Bordeless, that is what I'm and many people are currently using. I have freesync and it's not working in Fullscreen and there is terrible tearing, I had the same issue if I tried to use Vsync and the game would be at 60fps even though my monitor is set to 144hz. Don't worry about the loging in dropping to 2fps that's normal and was always like that Edited December 23, 2016 by astrix_au
BOO Posted December 23, 2016 Posted December 23, 2016 I'll take a look later. I got 60 fps steady but I should have more with a 980oc I try your tips. I'll post when done. Regards Vsync limits the game to 60 to match a 60Mhz monitors refresh rate - it stops tearing - if you have a 120 or 144Mhz monitor, you can turn it off and perhaps use one of the higher sync limiters in NV inspector (not the control panel) or up the settings or even reduce the clocks to match the range. - if your monitor is 60Mhz then you will either have to lock it to 60fps with vsync or put up with tearing in the graphics. either way, its not a settings issue, the settings are fine. Hey, on the plus side, think of all the power and heat your saving!! :-) Regards BOO
=TBAS=Sshadow14 Posted December 23, 2016 Posted December 23, 2016 IMHOThe best for compatability in general is to go into Nvidia Control panel >> Manage 3d settings >> and make a custom Program Specific Profile (maxing out the primary settings)and setting defaults correctly.Eg, As mentioned above there is Power Management. But also Shader cache, Multi display options, TEXTURE QUALITY.All should be setup for best experienceNOTE: Yes i am new to IL2 (as in got it today) But the above applies to ALL Games while using a Nvidia Card. Also as for the comment about GTX5xx and DX11 keep in mind the first TRUE Dx11 card was not until GTX680 which was built for dx11.
=RADF=SpaghettiFighter Posted December 23, 2016 Posted December 23, 2016 I have no "debug mode" in my NVIDIA help tab. I have a GTX 650
Mmaruda Posted December 23, 2016 Author Posted December 23, 2016 I have no "debug mode" in my NVIDIA help tab. I have a GTX 650 What drivers do you have? Also, might be this does not apply to your card or something, I am not sure. "Debug mode" was introduced primarily for factory overclocked cards which suffered in some games from driver crashes. What it esentially does is sets the card's clocks to the reference values.
=RADF=SpaghettiFighter Posted December 24, 2016 Posted December 24, 2016 (edited) I own Il-2 BoS (bought on Steam), before the last "patch" the game run perfectly, now it crash at the start, the loading screen is visible for a few seconds then the game crash without reporting particular errors. The first time it said there was an error with my NVIDIA. I unistalled the game and re installed it, but the problem persists, what should I do? I have a NVIDIA GTX 650 I am dowloading teh driver now, I will try re installing it and update it Edited December 24, 2016 by SpaghettiFighter

ShamrockOneFive Posted December 24, 2016 Posted December 24, 2016 I am unable to use game with new update will not allow full screen mode now and is so large when i enter that i can see no options at all. Video card and driver version?
216th_Jordan Posted December 25, 2016 Posted December 25, 2016 (edited) I am unable to use game with new update will not allow full screen mode now and is so large when i enter that i can see no options at all. Just a try: Manouver to your Il-2 install directory (Mine is: C:\Program Files (x86)\1C Game Studios\IL-2 Sturmovik Battle of Moscow\data) into the data folder. There you will find "Startup.cfg" Try to edit desktop_center = [to] 1 full_height = [enter your win hight] full_width = [enter your windows width] win_height = [enter your win hight] win_width = [enter your windows width] In my case it looks like this all in all: (leave fullscreen and vsync off for your first test though!) Make sure to save after editing! [KEY = graphics] adapter = 0 bloom_enable = 0 desktop_center = 1 detail_rt_res = 4096 fps_counter = 1 fps_limit = 60 full_height = 1440 full_width = 2560 fullscreen = 1 gamma = 1.00000 grass_distance = 300.00000 hdr_enable = 0 land_tex_lods = 3 mgpu_compatible = 0 multisampling = 2 or_enable = 0 preset = 3 ssao_enable = 0 vsync = 1 win_height = 1440 win_width = 2560 Edited December 25, 2016 by 216th_Jordan
