Official Historical Campaign "Ten Days of Autumn"

Just finished mission 4 and very atmospheric, enjoying the story to. Well done Black Six!

Looking forward to a Russian scripted campaign.

Mind you, if they make the AI better at dogfighting and Close Air Support, and I hope they do before the career is released, flying an Il-2 or Lagg 3 would be quite a challenge. Try playing "dead is dead" with no restarts and see how long you survive. I always had fun with the career mode in ROF, trying to stay alive, although the enemy fighters were never a big threat(they never seemed to attack me, and when they did, my gunner got them).

Posted

It is more likely the other way round here in game, they always attack you and your gunner never gets them. :P

I`ve enjoyed every second of flying with I./JG52  :)

Quality work BlackSix!

Beautiful screenshots, Cujo.

(This sim effortlessly - it seems - presents amazing vistas. Last night, my squadron did a coop flying Ju52s into the kessel. Pitomnik was lit up like a Christmas tree with an ongoing VVS raid. I wish I'd taken a screenie! 'Twas epic-looking.)

I'm doing the campaign, I want to say it's very nice to fly it. I have one question. Do we have information about the commander of the second flight of the 3./JG 52, the yellow five ? His name, his rank, his history. Can be great :)

The probability of this event is high, I have been thinking about this option :)

I plan to tell his history in more detail in the sequel of the campaign if I'll have an opportunity to make it. Now I can say that he was born in Cologne in 1918. He is the veteran of Battle for France and Battle for Britain; in October 1941 he is oberfeldwebel and waits for assignment of a rank of the lieutenant.

If you reinstalled the game without saving these files ...\data\swf\il2\usersave\... you've lost your progress.

About the other two reseting - please, contact to our support https://il2sturmovik.com/support/

How do you pass mission 05 A Critical Role?

It's just a recon flight but when I complete the whole route and land I still get the "failed" message.

Try to fly again this mission on the Normal difficulty and check passing of all waypoint. Don't forget what you need to gain height 200 м right after take-off then all triggers will begin to work.

Posted

I used the AI autopilot to complete the mission after three attempts on my own. It's possible that the waypoint triggers are too precise. I couldn't tell much difference between the AIs route and mine. In the other missions and official campaign it doesn't seem that you are required to be so accurate.

They have an area = 1 km near airfield and 3 km on the route, in the career waypoints have 5 km but I can't use so big area

Yes a bomber campaign would great.

How does the ME work according to player aircraft. Can you alter a campaign by put another plane as player plane?

If you make a campaign for bombers, when you finished it, can you change player plane and make a campaign for escorting fighters with the same campaign built?

Yes, ME allows you to change any mission and put the player in any aircraft.

Id buy more of these campaigns honestly. I quite enjoyed Ten Days of Autumn. Good variety in types of missions and pacing with a bit of surprises in there. The story was good and from what i read in this thread it was based on an actual pilots memoirs. Is that true?

It was based on an actual history of I./JG 52 in October 1941. I didn't find any pilots memoirs about this period.

Just a few missions into this campaign and the experience has been superb! Looking forward to playing the rest of it!

Finshed it - enjoyed it very much. :salute:

I had to refly several missions because of Mission Failure, my only gripe. Destroyed a dozen artillery pieces and still get Mission Failed because I missed an arbitrary waypoint height. I was playing on Expert rather than Normal because that's how I like it, and the campaign was designed for Normal so I can't complain really. Maybe less rigid criteria in the next campaign so everyone has an equal chance of success using whatever setting they like?

Cheers.

Cat, as I understand it, all you have to do is climb to 200m after take-off. This is so the game registers that you have actually taken off. After that, you can fly where you want and as long as you land again, you'll have completed the mission. Obviously, missing the waypoints may mean missing the "treats" that B6 has prepared for players!

I must say I've also really enjoyed this campaign. The missions are a nice duration - mostly short and sharp, and they all work beautifully. Excellent design, right down to the shade of yellow used for HUD waypoint messages! The missions are also an excellent example of how to use the tools that Mission Editor gives us. It just feels - professionally done!

Yes, this system will be completely changed in the next campaigns. You'll be able to skip any checkpoint but the mission will be completed if you land on the airfield.

Unfortunately, I have no time to completely reverse the current campaign...

Continued outputs of AI patches and professionally produced campaigns will make IL2 BoS and its derivatives legendary for decades to come!

Thoroughly excellent campaign which has breathed new life into BOS/BOM for me as a purely SP type.

Pat Wilson is doing sterling work with his CG, but this TDoA provided an interesting variety of missions and experiences, and the visuals were extraordinarily beautiful.

Please do more.

Now.

Hello B6,

I have flown campaign multiple times and wanted to see if there is a way to allow modification (bomb, canon etc) in the load out.

Is it anyway possible to take out f4 or g2 instead?

No. To do so would require you editing the mission's file, which is illegal due to the protection given to the campaigns you buy.

Can you at least modify f2 loadout? 20mm instead of 15mm?

I have been trying out this for the first time. Now at mission 3 and its growing on me. As a humble mission builder i like the layout at the airfields and the ground fire effects on mission one. Is it possible for B6 to share some of the scenery and ground fire groups on the ME forum. I know the missions are encrypted for the paid versions but maybe it can be done to help other builders.

No, for the same reasons stated above.

Jaaaaaaaackoooooooooo.... Jaaaaaaaaaaackooooooooo...

Record a track...  ;)

[switches to waspish schoolmistress voice: I suppose you could be forgiven for overlooking this MP mission flying Ju52s through appalling weather up a river, which shares 'certain elements' (such as the name) with B6's "Through the Rain" mission. You could be forgiven... since noone was interested in flying it...! Grrrrr! Bloody fighter boys.  ]

Ahhh the dulcet tones of the Swallow.

One could argue that anyone remotely interested in a wallowing corrugated garden shed is a few sandwiches short of a picnic.  I wouldn't say that of course, no no no!

Hugs and kisses

Lol swallow you old language teacher you. I may well try out the MP in the link. My Ju 52 ops mission out of Pitomnik went down very well. I did something wrong as half the squad made it home and some even landed

Just finished the campaign... highly enjoyable I must add :)

I didn't have a high kill rate, but managed to get 3 air kills, 1 parked aircraft kill, 9 vehicle kills, 1 AA kill... I concentrated on keeping my vritual life alive, but fulfilling my mission tasks as well.

I really enjoyed the airfield attack mission, providing support for the 110's.

Swooping in to engage their fighter cover with the other flight, got one of them and then as the last enemy fighter was downed, watched the 110's come screaming in to decimate the airfield... great gouts of earth and debris everywhere, pretty awe inspiring!

If anyone is reading this that hasn't tried this campaign yet, I strongly urge you to do so... many thanks BS   :salute:

Okay, so I did and it's really awesome. I've just finished it and it was a very immersive experience (on Expert settings)...

At first I had a few problems with (esp. landing) checkpoints not being activated and thus mission not completed, but that was caused by not climbing to 200m before passing the first checkpoint. When I googled and concentrated on this I had no such problems ever since.

Sometimes my sharpshooting wingmen cleared the sky so fast I could've hardly assist them, so I took the ground-attacking duty on every oportunity and destroyed 11 AAA and 65 ground targets, while only being hit by AA once (not side-slipping properly) and limped home anyway.

15 air kills thanks to multiple kill oportunities (ie. whole flight of Migs just taking off in the "Vendetta" mission; or catching that huge IL2 formation in "Bad News" I think...)

Among the most dramatic moments was a few intense dogfights with "rats" down low, after which I had to clear the field of battle rather swiftly, and pray for the engine to make it. Oh, and certain locomotive that refused to blow up until I was flying dangerously close above it. Then it nearly blown me out of the sky.  This was the only time I didn't bother with trying to bring the heavily damaged 109 home for too long (too far away) and restarted the mission, taking extra care to pull up sooner...

Great visuals, nice variety of the missions, the ever-present clashes between the poor infantry on the frontlines - very immersive indeed. Did I mention the cross-country flying in a fog with overcast in 500m? What more to wish for?

Very well done, BlackSix!

:salute:

--- edit ---

P. S.: This campaign really made me start using the commands to control the rest of the flight. Both "Patrol this area" and "Attack nearest ground target" commands talked the AI into attacking the ground targets, when I needed that. In the first case they would continue to destroy everything on the ground until I've stopped them. In the second case they would pick one target, destroy it and then a new command must have been given, otherwise they'd just return to covering me. They are, however, rather considerate when it comes to ground attacking - they'll always circle first, picking the target and approach carefully, so one needs to be patient and give them some time before they do anything.

I imagine there's a lot more objects and generally "things going on" in an average TDoA mission than max. number of planes available in QM. I experienced a few stutters along the way as well, but nothing serious luckily. What are your HW specs?

No idea why it took me so long, maybe I was just to focused on training and online flights, but I finally managed to get my focus together and deal with the first official scripted campaign.

Here is some critique. It's not to say it's bad by any means, or that it's not immersive. It is and so much more. But... It could be better.

I liked the story in the briefings, but at some point I stopped caring to read them with attention. Maybe if there was some kind of intro, like in the old generated campaign focusing on the protagonist - the pilot. After all we are this particular dude, I'd like to see him, know his thoughts, what he hopes for, what he fears. The text in the briefings is sort of just there. Well written, but lacks something that would invoke personal engagement.

An additional thought here, is that the campaign would benefit from some cutscenes - an intro video or maybe comic strip narration like in CFS2 (loved those). For some reason I believe still images with text am music suit serious games... Nobody seems to care though. :(

As for the missions, they are not particularly challenging, but do require some flying competence, though they do make for a good introduction to the sim - most of the time weather conditions are far from good and you are supposed to stick to certain flight parameters. I like this a lot. It makes for some beautiful scenery.

Now that said, it starts slow and... does not ramp up at all. Somewhere in the middle there are some more combat-intense flights, but the last 2-3 missions are simple cake walks. Maybe it's my cinematic sentiment, maybe just some sort of routine from other games, but I would expect that the scale and difficulty would increase throughout the campaign and culminate with an epic battle. Meanwhile, the last mission is an escort and a cakewalk. Maybe a missed something, but it was a bit disappointing to do the full run without enemy contacts.

Now that said, I enjoyed the hell out of the campaign, and all the issues above aren't really that big of a deal, but... it's a scripted campaign and maybe due to some film / gaming habbits, one would expect something more dramatic. I really don't know how to say this, it was great, but maybe I am just not pleased with the lack of an epic final battle. Probably gaming habits - you expect an epic boss fight and a cinematic outro. All I got was a screen saying I did 15 sorties, got 11 kills and destroyed 2 ground targets. It's not really a complaint, more of a recommendation for future releases.

Anyway, it was a good run, hopefully it will get better.
