I have to say I really love the Briefing text that tells the Story of our Pilot.

Black Six has a good hand for writing such stuff! :)

Campaign is very immersive and fun.....just keep them coming!

Am I right in thinking community mission builders can now make use of this new scripted mission format which ties the missions together?

Yes, you're right and we'll tell you about how it's done in coming Dev Diaries.

Hi Juri, one of your missions fan here.

Does new campaign allow you to have branches of mission? I.e. result of a prior mission decides different sequential path. Also does new campaign tool allow you to have contious objects? I.e. if i destroyed a near enemy airfield, will it stay destroyed or spawn as new on next mission?

Mission 5- who is in that pe2? Some soviet VIP? I made a wrong decision to kill one of its engine prior to its take off. It got stuck on the runway. Emptied entire gun. Had a 0 airkill. Bah

I don't think this will be possible. But I can only tell you what I know from testing the new scripted campaign mode. Maybe there are some additional options hidden somewhere or some features will be added later. I guess BlackSix can better answer this question.

I think it was a Soviet recon plane trying to do exactly what you were.

I took him out in three passes. The first pass killed the pilot and the top gunner (which I only found out while watching the replay), the second pass took out one of the engines, and the final pass detonated the fuel tank, and I was credited for the kill.

I also took out one of the Soviet trucks on the way there

Got a rather strange kill in the next mission. MiGs were attacking He-111s, and had already shot one down, so I rushed to help, attacking a MiG with a leaking fuel tank (who was the leader, as I later found out). He dived while doing slow rolls, and I followed, firing, but not scoring any visible hits. He then suddenly crashed into the Volga.

Upon watching the replay, it turns out I did actually hit him. Just before he crashed, I hit his wing near the ailerons, with what I believe was a 15mm AP round. I think I jammed the ailerons, which caused him to crash.

A bit earlier I scored a small hit on the fuselage just under the canopy, so perhaps he was wounded as well.

Pe-2 was damaged by last evening. It has been repaired during the night and is preparing to return to his base at Rogachevo.

You can meet scout weather in this mission, it's Il-2

I didn't ask about this possibility. The development of each mission takes 5-6 days and the creation of alternatives is very difficult and expensive :(

Hi B6. Thanks for great missions. I really like them. Hope you make more.

I plan to write comprehensive reviews about this campaign and showcase in youtube for asia audience.

Just a quick question, would you consider save feature in a campaign?

I ask this because this can lead to sp campaign base for plays like random expert or TAW.

Hi, thanks!

If you mean the saving of progress in the mission I haven't heard anything about such plans. This is a very serious feature of which would concern the whole offline mode.

Yes.

Now that's exciting! well done Juri!

(Hopefully the future coop mode will allow coop campaigns to support a similar presentation!)

I've played 2 missions now. Great atmosphere, nice amount of action (neither a killfest nor a borefest) and so far well balanced. I feel like I'm back in one of the old IL-2s campaigns again and that's a fantastic feeling!

Nice work on the campaign. I would have prefer, however to have access to the modification, like remove the head rest.

I agree with you. Gunpods am bombs could be locked but some other modifications allowed, at least in some missions, but I must said I like the campaign for now.

I replay mission #1 due to in my perfect landing I forgot to deploy the landing gear. Lol

In mission #2 I force landed due to debris of a rata that I exploded in mid air with the cannon.

While I definitely appreciate that the devs are trying to expand the Singleplayer experience of the game, I bought the campaign after all, I have to say that I am not entirely satisfied with the product. Before I go into further detail, let me say this: I have been playing DCS for a very long time now and I am an avid supporter of the excellent campaigns that are provided there (also mostly by dedicated mission builders btw.). I am therefore used to a certain level of quality and content when it comes to SP campaigns. I understand that BlackSix is not a dedicated campaign guy and that this was only one of his contributions to the sim, but that said: I also pay 10$ for the campaigns in DCS and I have to say that the complexity of the missions, the variety of tasks, the amount of material that is used as documentary, storytelling and presentation and the crazy amount of custom voice-overs (which are or at least were possible in BoS) just blow this campaign out of the water tenfold. The concept of the missions is definitely good and there is a fair amount of variety in the tasks and kind of gameplay the missionstructure tries to create, but when all is said and done, it feels like a slightly orchestrated standard-campaign with the bonus of a few hot spots with tracer fire. Custom voice-overs, storytelling in the mission to change the course of the experience and a bit more material on the side about what happened during the time, the actual battles that took place and maybe something visual (maybe old pictures) would do wonders for this campaign. I do not know that is missing this is due to BlackSix having other dev-duties, the limitations of the engine or other reasons I do not want to speculate upon. The experience I got with the campaign is definitely better than everything we have seen so far in terms of Singeplayer from the developer side, but to be honest: We have not seen very much in the first place, so that was not that difficult. Not trying to be a hater here, but I would strongly suggest motivating capable dedicated mission builders to join in on the fray with a good cooperation in the payment model or actually getting someone on the team who has the time and ressources to further develop the developer-created campaigns.

Maybe I'm simply spoiled by DCS's superb content in the campaign-department but as it stands I cannot justify to purchase another campaign of this format when there are quite a few DCS campaigns still out there that I want to play. Just some honest thoughts and my experience.

Edit: For those who wanna know what I mean - there are quite a few trailers, playthroughs and all that jazz available on youtube. Good examples of what I mean are "Operation Piercing Fury" - by Ranger79 and "The Enemy Within" by Baltic Dragon, both campaigns for the A-10C. The official campaign for the Mirage 2000C module, which has also been crafted by Baltic Dragon is another example.

Thanks for the write-up, interesting read.

I have played though all but the last few missions in the campaign.

The experience is surprisingly rich! Normally, missions get repetitive in campaigns, as there are usually only 2-3 things you ever really do. However, this campaign does not have this feeling. It is far more immersive and engaging.

I will be sad when it's over. I wish we got a unique skin with the campaign, or some kind of unlockable reward on completion. Something to show off as we continue our online careers. :-)

Hopefully in the future, little things like kill markings show up on our planes.

Very pleased with this campaign. It's worth twice what we're paying for it.

Managed to fly the first four missions of the campaign and I have to say it really is very good, the briefings especially, the translation is superb and very well done. :salute:

If this is the way forward for the offline players like me then I have to applaud the effort Alexander has made in putting this together.

I wonder if he ever thought of doing this for a living, he should. ;)

Wishing you all the very best for Christmas and the New Year, Pete.

Don't forget that the scripted campaign mode is still not finished. Quote from Han in the last dev diary:

We plan to improve Scripted Campaign mode in the future, adding ability to playback audio and video files in mission briefiengs, interactive dialogs during a mission and other interesting features.

At the moment some of this is already possible, for example by adding videos at the start or end of a missions, but it doesn't work very well, because technochat and HUD are visible when playing a video in a mission, that's why few mission builders use this option. So having a video option in mission briefings would be a big step forward.

I am especially interested in an interactive dialog option. This could be used to trigger mission events by radio commands.

mission 8: train is delayed

One of the things I really enjoy is watching the ATC at work. When several flights are coming in, you hear multiple radio calls of ACs asking permission to land. ATC will clear them or not, depending on traffic. ACs circle the field in the traffic pattern waiting for their turn. I like to join the pattern and wait for my turn to land.

All very immersive and well done, many sims tend to take shortcuts when it comes to this aspect, it is nice to see the attention to detail.

Thank you for the hard work!

Here's smth I need to ask - I crash landed and I cannot proceed to the next mission - how can I correct this difficulty option in the campaign?

hmmmm..... mission 7, the russians are coming: Flew it two times now, painstakingly concentrated on meeting the way points, landed safely, even shot down 2 I16s - however, both times, I got a "mission failed" in the end.

Am I missing some secret target?

Thx for any hint!

Please, explain your problem in more detail. Can you fly this mission again?

Mission end goal: land at airfield, you can't change this condition

Try to fly again this mission on the Normal difficulty and check passing of the first point. Don't forget you've to gain height 200 м after take-off then all triggers will begin to work.

Yes I can re-try this mission but I want to proceed to the next one.

This is frustrating, sort of like when old IL-2 difficulty was locked to "mission must be complete" option but it was possible to turn it off before starting a campaign.

Any plans to change this diifculty for "10 days of Autumn"? Make "successful take-off" the mission end goal maybe?

I removed the need to perform any task, you just have to pass a route and then land. This is the simplest condition and I need it to the story was logical that is told in the briefings. If you didn't return then it will be strange to read in the following briefing that you returned normally

Thx, didn't know about those 200m. And going usually for speed first rather then height I probably was too low. But I refuse to fly with symbols and text blocks on my screen :)

B.t.w, is it generally necessary to be at more than 200m to trigger waypoints in this game?

Yes, and I can't change this rule for the take-off condition :(
