Grancesc Posted December 19, 2016 Posted December 19, 2016 In anticipation of the upcoming features of the improved BOS/M/K-series (DX11, VR etc.) many simmers plan an upgrade of their PCs. I have therefore asked the developer team below questions and haven’t received any answers so far. Are there experts among you who know themselves, already have made experiences and can give information in this regard? 1. Will the new BOK-engine be optimized for multi-threading (i.e. more than 4/8 cores/threads)? In particular, will the sim run better with an 8-core or 6-core processor than with a 4-core? 2. Is an overclocked 4-core (eg. @ 4.4 GHz) better than a normal clocked 6-core (eg. @ 3.6 GHz)?
AristocratPanda Posted December 19, 2016 Posted December 19, 2016 I'm one of those simmers who plan to upgrade soon. Thanks for any advice on this subject.
Dakpilot Posted December 19, 2016 Posted December 19, 2016 1. It is unlikely that it will be optimised for 6-8 cores, however DX11 may show some improvement (only educated guess) many big commercial programs do not make better use of 6-8 core, I understand a lot has to be re-written and it is a big task 2. In most cases a highly clocked 4 core will beat a low clocked 6-8 core unless program has been specifically written for multicore CPU, and even then high clockspeed can be more beneficial watch from 7.20 Cheers Dakpilot
Grancesc Posted December 24, 2016 Author Posted December 24, 2016 So, we got a response from Han (posted yesterday, 12:01): Frequency is supreme, so 4.4 4-core is better choise now. One day when we will split simulation to several threads - cores will supreme. The interesting question is now when will they split the simulation into more threads. 1
