SCG_motoadve Posted December 14, 2016 Posted December 14, 2016 What are the best tips to fight in this Yak1?
Finkeren Posted December 14, 2016 Posted December 14, 2016 Drag the Germans low and use your maeuverability to tie them up in a furball. 2
SCG_Space_Ghost Posted December 14, 2016 Posted December 14, 2016 Fink is spot on there. Use your superior maneuverability at sub-2K altitude, fight in the horizontal, carry your energy and most of all, stay sharp, stay on the tip of your toes, try to frustrate your opponent and force them to make tactical errors that force them out of their comfort zone and away from their greatest performance margins.
Y29.Layin_Scunion Posted December 14, 2016 Posted December 14, 2016 Fink definitely broke it down straight forward. It's the simplest way to put it.You'll mostly be dealing with enemies above you so get used to jinking/turning/anticipating passes and pulling back onto target.
=WH=PangolinWranglin Posted December 14, 2016 Posted December 14, 2016 (edited) I have a short but decent replay of me in a fight with a 109 up above 7 km and I'll upload it if I learn how. I forced him to dive away (he broke his ailerons in the dive ) after putting shots into his engine and causing an oil leak. Basically up at higher altitudes make sure your supercharger is in 2nd gear, mixture is leaned (lower percentage), and radiators are as closed as possible because you need all the speed you can get up there. I have to say that I found it far easier to track what was happening up there. Keep on your toes. Never let your guard down. Edited December 14, 2016 by =DF=spaceman1999
vincini Posted December 18, 2016 Posted December 18, 2016 Also, if you find yourself with no energy and a 109 comes down to you with plenty, and knows what they are doing, use your flaps. It gives you that extra pull for making tight turns and making the firing angle tougher for the Axis pilots.

E69_geramos109 Posted December 19, 2016 Posted December 19, 2016 Just use the flaps for everything and if you are hit dont worry, you still can turn perfectly. Has someone notice that the flap system does not fail after taking combat damage? 1
vincini Posted December 19, 2016 Posted December 19, 2016 No. oh? lol guess all the forum topics about the miracle flaps during combat were all a hoax Just tried it yesterday in a QMB and yup, still makes the yak pull like its a spit, never failed me since launch day

Finkeren Posted December 19, 2016 Posted December 19, 2016 still makes the yak pull like its a spit. Well from the sources I could dig up in a couple minutes, the turn time for the late Yak-1 series is 19 sec. while the turn time for an early mark Spitfire (I think it was Mk. IIb) is also 19 sec., so if the Yak "pulls like a Spit" isn't that more or less correct?

Not about the turn time, a spitfire has a lower stall speed in a turn than a yak with raised flaps, that is what i meant. You can go test this in simulator that has both planes in it or look up the real-life tests. I am goin to try out the new update! And i can not argue with AeroAce because he is right, but that doesn't make a tactic void because someone knows about it, i expect 190 to dive on me, so does that mean a 190 diving is a bad tactic? See you guys in the sky!

Mk.V is somewhere in the middle.
