No_85_Gramps Posted December 13, 2016 Posted December 13, 2016 Couldn't be beat for an out-of-control, furball, fun-time! No holds barred, do what you like and have fun doing it! I know it wasn't everyone's cup-of-tea but I'll still miss it. The new Random Normal is nice but needs some more players. I can see where they are going with it and it works pretty good. Of course, now I had to try out the Action Tanks/Dogfighters server. Surprised myself by actually getting a couple of kills. Quite a bit different w/no labels, but what serves you well, the ability to sneak up on someone not watching their six, comes right back to bite you for not watching your six! May have to spend some more time on that server and check-in on the Random Expert. Whatever your cup-of-tea is...make sure you are having fun! 1
II/JG17_HerrMurf Posted December 13, 2016 Posted December 13, 2016 Decrease the wind speed (15 ms), cut the icon distances by half, and I think they've got something. Once DX11 hits double the ground objects. I think it will move a little more toward objective based and it will get more of the ground pounders aboard. The maps and lighting are much improved over the original Normal server. I see lots of untapped potential here for Normal.
-DED-ASF Posted December 16, 2016 Posted December 16, 2016 Decrease the wind speed (15 ms), It's a bug. Will be fixed ASAP. cut the icon distances by half At the moment impossible. Still waiting for developers decision.
II/JG17_HerrMurf Posted December 16, 2016 Posted December 16, 2016 Thanks. The "new" Normal maps are lovely to look at.

I didn't realise the -DED- Normal server was finished until I spotted this post. For the last couple of years it's been our regular online home and we'll greatly miss it. For more casual online players (and those who have found their skill level on normal difficulty) it has been at the heart of the online game. I've just had a look at the online stats for Random Normal and it's great to see so many -DED- Normal regulars have made the transition. Although we are struggling a little to adjust to the new (slower) pace of life and death on Random Normal (and to ground handling), I welcome the steps taken to implement a greather degree of operational realism. Many thanks to those (past and present) who support the normal difficulty game online. JR
No_85_Gramps Posted December 16, 2016 Author Posted December 16, 2016 I like the new Random Normal and it will be nice to see how it develops down the line. Right now, when I get the chance, I've been on the Action Tanks/Dogfight server. Only a few flights with some success, but I haven't accidentally fired on any friendly's....yet. It can be a nice relaxing slow-pace (at times) introduction to flying in expert mode. Will be interesting to see how the switch to DX11 affects things in MP.
CUJO_1970 Posted December 17, 2016 Posted December 17, 2016 I like the maps much better, but I've never seen more than three total players there at any one time in the US Eastern time zone (evenings).
II/JG17_HerrMurf Posted December 17, 2016 Posted December 17, 2016 It has decent numbers in the afternoons. 12-20 or so, 1100-1400 PST.
hames123 Posted December 19, 2016 Posted December 19, 2016 Yes, but I wish some of them would try out Coconuts server. They are not much harder, you just need to learn what settings to place the engine on, and yet have much better missions.
II/JG17_HerrMurf Posted December 19, 2016 Posted December 19, 2016 It isn't really. It is just somewhat modified and renamed. Maybe they should keep a greater portion of the old name for familiarity. 2
