True airspeed calibration?

Recommended Posts

Hello

I couldn't find anything in the forum search (or internet for that matter) about this so apologies if i was incompetent in my search.

I'm just wondering if any knowledgeable gentlemen and/or German speakers know the calibration to calculate true airspeed (+xx kph per 1km alt) over IAS for the 109's.

If anyone wants to post information for any other aircraft that's fine as it is useful to know.

All we need is a metric version and not the old Imperial versions.

If you want an estimate, you can go with the above. If you want exact, you need the game's position error correction, which is unknown as far as I know. For the FM testing I'm doing for the P-40 where I need exact numbers we are attempting to do a known distance range and simply time how long it takes using standard atmospheric data to derive this information.

Unless 1CG gives us the information which we have requested, but no idea if or when that would happen.

There is a giant internet out there which will allow you to find the information to convert miles to kilometres..it is not secret  :)

or even possible to use real WWII equipment of pencil and paper

(humour, dont be offended)

That needs to be done at a known altitude as well.  Just to be clear too, Position Error Correction is applicable to the individual aircraft.  Both the Bf-109F4 and the P-40E will have to fly the course to determine the error.

Here is a real world example of a known distance course to determine Position Error:

Here is the raw data converted to standard conditions:

Based on the measured conditions:

Aircraft details for the specific aircraft that flew the course:

Speed conversion work:

Course information, notice they used runway lengths as their know distance on the ground.  Very common thing to do.

Finally, a PEC curve was constructed:

You just gather enough data points to get curve that is used to approximate the amount of position error at velocity.

Test course should be at 1000m, but we are setting the atmospherics as if it were sea level so I won't be eating trees as I fly it.

That should help out a lot making things easier.  Post the data in the PM and I will check everything out.

I do not fly enough bombers anymore to look for it the maps are too small.

The auto sight in this game you have to set the correct values for it to work as if you were the bombardier.

If they would of fixed the auto-drop like in the old IL-2 1946 we would not need any other input crap to

drop bombs.Auto-bomb in the old IL-2 1946 for me is like having a competent bombardier in that position.

I put the plane on target and he calculates and drops the bombs.

I am the pilot not the navigator or the bombardier.

It is the old gadgets we used to have in the old IL-2 1946 game that would of made me play and buy more.

It is not just graphics that attract players anymore hell, there are a lot of nice games out there.

The new stuff and the way of making the game and their choices and the paths the devs took

like the scenarios offline content, the online experience and variety ,theaters of operation do

not interest me as much as I would of thought so I play much less.

Fly offline once or twice a week is enough for me there are some nice missions out there.

There is no right or wrong it is all a matter of choice and what you really want to play.

I put the plane on target and he calculates and drops the bombs.

I agree with most of what you say

However I replied to a post requesting IAS-TAS conversion for Me-109

what I posted was indeed in imperial, but it is not that hard to convert miles to KM or vice versa

I think we are discussing cross purposes here.. :)
