T6-ADStukadriver Posted December 12, 2016 Posted December 12, 2016 I am sure people have discussed this somewhere, sometime...but I would appreciate a few hints on how to handle the take off sequences for the referenced planes. I tried very hard last night to get the JU88 off the runway, but it seemed to want to ground loop and get quite unruly as speed picked up. I did get the HE-111 off the runway a couple of times but at very low speeds...near stall. Help, please?
L3Pl4K Posted December 12, 2016 Posted December 12, 2016 He111: -20-30% Flaps -with 2x1000kg bomb charge, 85% rpm and 85% throttle(autum, winter) -rotate at min 180 better 200 km/h Ju88: -flaps to starting postion -with 2t+ bomb charge use full power to start -move the throttle no to fast forward -if the tailwheel is still on the ground, you can use the brakes to correct the direction, but gently -if the tail is lifted use the rudder to correcgt the direction - rotate at min 180 better 200km/h General -use the complette runway -lift the tail as early as possible - after take off retract the landing gear -go to combat power as early as possible -gain some altitude(100m) before you retract the flaps
HandyNasty Posted December 12, 2016 Posted December 12, 2016 what I do in the Ju88 is the following : I takeoff with my view as the frontal gunner. The better fontal view from this pos allows me to line up the strip easily, and make corrections quickly to deviations
Hoots Posted December 12, 2016 Posted December 12, 2016 Only advice I have for the 88 is to get both throttles forward reasonably quickly and also move both at the same time, don't advance one more than the other. Get the speed coming up as quickly as possible.
216th_Jordan Posted December 12, 2016 Posted December 12, 2016 Also make sure to climb at a very shallow angle to pick up more speed first. (lift drag increases dramatically as you approach stall speed)
Plurp Posted December 12, 2016 Posted December 12, 2016 88 starts out at 0% prop pitch, set to 100% to get the takeoff power you need
Yogiflight Posted December 12, 2016 Posted December 12, 2016 What helped me, not to groundloop with the Ju88, was standing on the brakes, when I increased power, with prop pitch 100%. As soon as she starts to move, stop braking and let her go. This way I found her quite easy to control, normally without any need of course correction with the brakes, only when there are heavy sidewinds.
T6-ADStukadriver Posted December 12, 2016 Author Posted December 12, 2016 Excellent...thanks very much for the help.
taffy2jeffmorgan Posted December 12, 2016 Posted December 12, 2016 I was having the same problem with mainly the 111 and 88 and asked the same question, to correct this carry 50% or less fuel and no ordinance and about half flaps, when you can take off on a regular basis try slowly increasing fuel and bomb load and as been said, get the tail up as soon as possible, have fun !!
HighStick Posted December 12, 2016 Posted December 12, 2016 My hints for Ju88: After taxi to runway, make sure tailwheel is locked in forward position, I check from rear belly gunner station before takeoff. Tailwheel is self-centering. Otherwise its hard to takeoff straight down the runway. I also set trim up a bit, trim is set to level flight by default I think Hold some right rudder, set full prop pitch and then full throttle
Jade_Monkey Posted December 12, 2016 Posted December 12, 2016 You need around a third of the fuel load given the current map size. Full fuel load will make takeoff and climb very very difficult.
Pharoah Posted December 13, 2016 Posted December 13, 2016 Good luck trying to taxi the JU88 in winter - its pretty crappy when it gets bogged down (you just find out which direction it unbogs itself). quite frustrating TBH to spend 10 mins taxiing. As for t/o, the KEY for getting them off the ground is: 1. use the full runway 2. 100% prop pitch (you won't get off the ground without it) 3. flaps 15-20% 4. elevator trim to +20 (sometimes by default its -30 or so ie. trying to get you to descend) Once you get airborne, pull your prop pitch back to about 85% (it'll change to climb) and throttles back to 90% then reduce over time. Oh and get your radiators (H111) and cowl flaps (JU88) fully open (summer) or 80% open (winter).
6./ZG26_Klaus_Mann Posted December 13, 2016 Posted December 13, 2016 (edited) My Full Piece of this: He-111 Loadout Fuel: 899-1199 liters. That's the equivalent of 0:50 to 1:30 hours. Bombs: Don't take two external Bombs. Normally taking a 1800kg or 1000kg external and 4x250s or 16x50s will give you acceptable Performance. Set-Up Trim: Tail Heavy 30-50% RPM: Full Radiators: Oil and Water 50% Flaps: 20° (33%) Take-Off Run -Increase Throttle to Full -fully Push the Stick forward to get the tail up, be careful not to put the nose into the Ground though. -Keep on the runway using Rudder, if that's not enough use Wheel Brakes. -She will build speed rather quickly at this point. -At 180kph gently pull back until you have Lift-Off -Maintain roughly 10m above the Runway until Gear is Retracted -When the Gear is Retracted the Aircraft should enter climbing attitude by itself. -Ease back on the throttle to 1.3ata and 2400rpm -Simultaneously retract Flaps to 10° -At 220 kph Flaps can be retracted fully and Climbing should be done at 230kph. Above 4500m climb at 220kph IAS. Ju-88 Loadout Fuel: I normally never take more than 940 liters. It will get you around the map just fine. Bombs: Try not to exceed 2000kg on Short Airfields, 1500kg are the Maximum I would recommend, that's 6x250 or 28x50kg. Everything above that is just painful. Set-Up RPM: Full Shutters: 50-100% Trim: Fully Tailheavy Flaps: First Stage (Yellow Light) Take-Off -Fully Push Forward on the Stick -Full Throttle -Use Wheelbrakes at first, Rudder as soon as Tail Lifts. -Let the Speed build -At 200-220kph Firmly Pull Back on the Stick to Lift-Off -Maintain 10-50m Above the Ground until Gear is fully Retracted -Only when Gear is fully Retracted and Speed is in excess of 240kph you retract the Flaps. -Now you can ease back on the throttle and begin the Climb. Jade_Monkey Posted December 13, 2016 Posted December 13, 2016 Ive had no problem taxiing the Ju88 before. Last night i couldnt get it to the runway no matter what. I dont know if it changed a lot since the ground physics. Ill have to try again tonight.
