Fran13 Posted December 12, 2016 Posted December 12, 2016 HI I´m new with this SIM (well I played years 1946) and I have lot problems to see contacts...Do you have an advise for me? My PC is a decent one with Trackir5+27 inch screen. Thanks!!!
7.GShAP/Silas Posted December 12, 2016 Posted December 12, 2016 (edited) Turning down the gamma as low as you can in settings can help. I'm sure others have more advice though. And welcome! Edited December 12, 2016 by Silas
Luftschiff Posted December 12, 2016 Posted December 12, 2016 (edited) First of all, hello and welcome! Spotting contacts is a problem for just about everyone, I think - I find it a lot harder than in '46 or CloD, although not quite as hard as in RoF. As was suggested above, adjusting the gamma settings can help, especially on the winter maps, and of course it helps a lot if you can run really high resolution on a really large screen - though that takes hardware. Overall though I think it's mostly something you have to get used to, and will get better at over time. Edited December 12, 2016 by Luftschiff
IRRE_Centx Posted December 12, 2016 Posted December 12, 2016 Welcome! Parameter the contrast of your screen helps a lot too And yes spotting is different in this game than in other games, but after some adaptation time you get used to it, don't worry! (and maybe the future update of the game from DX9 to DX11 could help spotting too!)
Finkeren Posted December 12, 2016 Posted December 12, 2016 Hi and welcome. Spotting and keeping track of contacts is arguably the single most difficult aspect of this sim. Take some solace in the fact, that you are not alone. Running above 1080 graphics helps with long distance spotting, but does nothing to help at closer distances. My best advise (other than correcting gamma and contrast) is to fly mainly on winter maps for a start. Spotting against the snowy ground is much, much easier and can help you get a feel for it before you move on to summer and autumn maps (autumn is probably the hardest).
Dakpilot Posted December 12, 2016 Posted December 12, 2016 It may seem a pain, but make a big effort to calibrate your monitor prior to any other steps Cheers Dakpilot
216th_Jordan Posted December 12, 2016 Posted December 12, 2016 Turning down the gamma as low as you can in settings can help. I'm sure others have more advice though. And welcome! I did that for some time and would not recomment it anymore. When you turn down gamma you might be able to see better but only against bright lighting, if targets are closer to the ground or up high in the blue sky you will have more and more trouble spotting and also the game turns very ugly. Others have said it already: The keyword is monitor calibration! Most monitors are by default way too bright and have too much contrast. This is a page where you can do a very quick configuration/check that will help you calibrate your monitor roughly. Also having IPS monitors seems too help. (If you have one you my think about getting display calibration hardware that will also be able to correct any color mismatch) http://www.monitorsetup.com/ with description on how to use it here: http://img.caliprint.net/ms/mscdoc.pdf But even with the best suggestions: Spotting is hard and planes have a camouflage for a reason. The ability to hide is a lot better in this sim then in '46
Jade_Monkey Posted December 13, 2016 Posted December 13, 2016 (edited) I cannot see [Edited] when im coming from above and there are trees below the enemy. Literally 100% blend with the background. It would be nice to have a glare here and there. Edited December 15, 2016 by Bearcat
Finkeren Posted December 13, 2016 Posted December 13, 2016 I cannot see sh*t when im coming from above and there are trees below the enemy. Literally 100% blend with the background. It would be nice to have a glare here and there. I can so relate to that. It's especially bad on the autumn map. Any drab coloured aircraft is for all intents and purposes invisible against forest right up to some 100m distance. And I'm not even talking about spotting. I'm talking about a plane which I'm already tracking visually, as soon as he flies over a forest "poof", he vanishes from sight, especially if he's presenting a small profile (me on his 6 or 12 o'clock)
Nil Posted December 13, 2016 Posted December 13, 2016 Spotting contact AND never leave them is hard . I suggest you to use the zoom to spot them, then when you have one always look at him.
=EXPEND=CG_Justin Posted December 14, 2016 Posted December 14, 2016 Spotting contact AND never leave them is hard . I suggest you to use the zoom to spot them, then when you have one always look at him. I agree with this advice, but it does walk a fine line of maintaining visual contact and losing situational awareness. It's a deadly game of "do I risk losing my target acquisition, or risk losing my tail feathers/life because I didn't watch my ass?". Unfortunately, target fixation has made me gain a lot of unwanted sky diving experience. Keeping the target in sight and maintaining SA is really dancing on the razors edge as far as I'm concerned. In my opinion, there is always a possibility to reacquire my target, but there is "0" possibility to regain my destroyed control surfaces. Just my thoughts... 1
