I wonder why both Lagg-3 and Yak-1 have the stronger M-105PF engine in BoS, whereas in FB they did not.

I wonder why M-105PF engine has more HP in BoS than it did in FB

I wonder why DB-601A, DB-601N and especially DB-605A engines have far less horsepower in BoS than in FB.

(F-4 lower value 1085PS in FB is "nominal" power, not combat Power, whereas the 1200PS in BoS are Combat Power).

Thoughts...?

P.S.: Further I wonder why WEP lasts only 50 seconds in Bf-109F-4, 3 Minutes in Fw-190, 5 Minutes in La-5 and 10 Minutes in Mig-3....does anyone know for sure about the reason behind those times?

The early LaGG and Yak-1 featured in the old IL-2 aren't the same variants than the ones in BoS: The Yak-1 is an early 1941 version, with the M-105P, same as the LaGG in your chart (series 4 I suppose). There are several other LaGG-3 models in IL-2 1946, in which the BoS series 29 is included (that is the one you should make comparison). A M-105PF engine Yak-1 (model 1942) isn't modelled in IL-2 1946, however the HSFX mod adds it.

The DB-605A has less power because in the BoS timeframe the 1.42 ata boost wasn't allowed. Now with the addition of the Bf-109 G4 with it's mid-latish 1943 regulation it should be available. As far as IL-2 1946 goes, I can run the Bf-109 F4 at 1.42 ata (1350 PS) without limitation.  In IL-2 1946 there isn't manifold pressure time limit to the planes, unless it is some additional WEP system like MW50, Erhöhte Notleistung or Methanol injection in allied planes, which would just run out after that special additive gets consumed without damaging the engine.

This post reeks of accusations of bias.

If you have data showing something is wrong, post it.

Otherwise, perhaps a more constructive tone would be more productive such as "does anyone have primary source documents showing the time limit for the DB601 blah blah blah?"

Just a suggestion.

As said above the Yak -1 and Lagg-3 are the later models that are correct for Battle of Stalingrad timeframe,

the other questions should not be about comparing to IL-2 PF but to historical documents and info  :)

Good source of data for engine power, limits etc. is the http://wwiiaircraftperformance.org/ , along of course http://www.kurfurst.org/ for DB 601/605 engines.

Eg. this table for the DB 601A. The 30 min rating at best height was 960 PS, the 5 min rating (we can ca it WER, for comparison sake) was 1020. The often quoted 1100 PS was just for take off, 1 minute. 1175 PS rating was the take off rating for DB 601Aa, the engine more often found in Jabo versions of the 109E and 110C; higher power down low but a bit less above 4.5 km than on the usual 601A.

The DB 601N - different sources quote either 3 min limit for "WER" or 1 min limit. At any rate, the max power was 1175 PS at 4.9 km, the 30 min power was 1050 at best altitude. table Also: 1260 PS at 2.1 km (1 or 3 min limit); 1090 PS for 30 min limit.

DB 601E: power for five min limit was available from December 1941/Januar 1942, and amounted to 1320 PS at best altitude (also 1450 PS at 2.1 km). The 30 min rating was 1200 PS at best altitude. chart table

Db 605A: 5 min power was banned until Autumn (October?) of 1943. The 30 min power went to 1250 PS at altitude, and to 1400 PS at 2.1 km. data

BMW 801D: 3 min emergency power (let's call it WER, innacurate as it is) was allowed from October 1942. 3 min was also limit for the emergency power for the 801C.

AM-35A: was it ever allowed for WER actaually?

There's some problems with the aircraft selected here on the Russian side.

First, there is no Yak-1 Series 69 with M-105PF available in IL-2 1946. The developers modeled a 1941 model of the Yak-1 (an earlier series version) and not the mid-1942 version that is period appropriate to the Stalingrad battles for both late summer and winter. The Yak-1B is their "1942" version although its really a 1943 version much like the Series 127 that we have recently added to the stable. Seeing as that is the only Russian aircraft that actually matches in the comparison... its not surprising that their speed is off by 1kph. The other two are incorrect.

The LaGG-3 chosen must be the Series 4 based on the M-105P engine. There are 4 versions in IL-2 1946... the Series 4 (M-105P), Series 29 (M-105PF), Series 35 (M-105PF), and Series 66 (M-105PF). Seeing as both sims have the LaGG-3 Series 29 why was the comparison not done with that version?
