Player aircraft not properly taxiing and taking off when on Autopilot

...despite being properly target linked to the leader.

Anyone else have this issue - it's making proper testing of my missions impossible and really holding up my progress.

At the moment, the player AC on autopilot will taxi into position only sometimes, some of the time I have to exit auto-pilot and hit "A"

again before it will continue to move into position. Then the Leader and the the number 2 aircraft take off, (after a long wait) and the player aircraft

just sits there indefinitely. Exiting and re-entering autopilot doesn't help at this point.

Any insight/help appreciated.

Sent to Jim and he says it works for him...odd. I'm stumped.

Jim thanks for looking at it - figured I post here and see if anyone else has an idea.

P.S.

It's not a mission I want public at this point, so if anyone feels like looking at it, PM me and I'll email it

to you.

Just a thought: try re-saving the mission and then run it. That's what I did when I tried it.

I also found that flights with more than 2 planes don't take off or take a very long time. What happens is that when a plane approaches its take off position it also gets close to another plane in the flight. It then brakes to avoid a collision and stops. From then on, it gets stuck there or moves very slowly. It happens also with flights with just two planes if they are ju88.

As coconut mentioned - there is a bug with large formations. I have reported this issue long time ago, still fingers crossed this will be fixed some day. Basically, right now:

- 2x plane formations will get to the runway and will take off in a reliable and fast way

- 3x will take some time (until the last plane will get in formation)

- 4x and above - don't bother

Also a video explaining the issue:

Note that there are other subtle bugs that may prevent takeoffs - however those are harder to reproduce. Sometimes the plane will get on the runway and will position in a weird angle (due to wind speed settings for example) - this might also prevent successful take offs.

Thanks everyone - I'll keep playing with it.

Yeah, my number 3 aircraft just refuses to take off now.

Bummer...just another annoying idiosyncrasy with this editor.

It decided to delete the text my my triggered messages most recently...gee thanks!

I am getting severely pissed off.

Even when the 3rd aircraft is eliminated, and I make the player aircraft the number 2 - it takes forever to taxi into position, even then

only if I exit and enter autopilot several times...and never takes off with the leader.

Thus - making it impossible for me to properly test a mission.

Part of the reason that it's impossible to test as well is that the covering flight of 109's will not keep with the AI flight leader, even though they're linked

to that aircraft, but rather they hover over the player aircraft which stays parked on the field. Thus I can't ignore the stationary player AC for now and test

the rest of the mission properly - such as the intercepting enemy patrol...since the flight is now un-escorted.

I'm BEYOND annoyed right now. This editor just seems to fight me every step of the way.

Beyond learning the work-flow, which I'm fine with....it's full of bugs.

Time to call it a night.

Well as often happens, I think of a solution after I'm no longer in front of program - usually this is with 3D apps.

In the shower, or in bed.

In this case, the "hey Jim you giant dummy, if the player AC is causing the bug, then make ALL the aircraft AI for now for testing purposes, and simply spectate like normal)

...and when I say "Jim you dummy" I'm talking about ME FYI....hehe

New day, clear head.

Things should progress much faster now with that little annoyance out of the way.

What I'm looking for here is a certain amount of productivity per hour to make this endeavor worth it, I'm getting there.

Having fun again.
