eRoN Posted December 9, 2016 Posted December 9, 2016 Hello, I'm just wondering if anyone could fill me in on the way the timers work for 'engine modes' as they are defined in game. I have read on the forums that once you push the engine into, for e.g. 1.3 ata combat mode on 109, a 30 minute timer starts, after which engine damage will occur with some modicum of variation on the timer. My question is for more information on how this timer works, specifically does it only count up or can it count down? For example, if i run 30-minute combat mode for 20 minutes, then run continuous for 10, assuming 1:1, will the background timer tick down to 10 minutes, giving me 20 minutes until engine damage? Or will that 20 minutes remain regardless until one lands the plane and gets a new one. Thanks. 1
216th_Jordan Posted December 11, 2016 Posted December 11, 2016 As far as I know it does not count down as engine wear will not be able to reduce itself just by lowering power. After you pass the allowed engine overpower time the engine will fail after a random amount of time. Jordan
=EXPEND=Tripwire Posted December 11, 2016 Posted December 11, 2016 If you run a 109F4 at 1.42 ata for your 1 minute, then run normal power for about 12-15 minutes you sometimes get a technochat message stating your emergency power is available again. So there is some recovery capability. If you exceed the 1 minute limit for an excessive amount of time and damage kicks in, then there is no undoing the damage.
GridiroN Posted December 11, 2016 Posted December 11, 2016 I run 109s in emerg power much longer than 1min. As long as you give the engine ample time to cool back down, giving the throttle 100% for 10-20sec at a time does not seem problematic.
