Jade_Monkey Posted December 7, 2016 Posted December 7, 2016 Is there any way to check how far can the artillery shoot? In this case I want to use the soviet ML20. I'll do trial and error but if there is a reference (for the game, not real life) for the distances I'd appreciate it.
Jade_Monkey Posted December 7, 2016 Author Posted December 7, 2016 Well never mind. I figured out that 1.4 squares works (probably not even close to the limit but enough for me).
Yogiflight Posted December 7, 2016 Posted December 7, 2016 Hi Jade, I learned in german 'Bundeswehr', that artillery positions are about one third of their range, behind the frontlines. So 5-7km should be the best for the ML20, that had a range of about 18km IIRC. Most mission makers place them to far behind the front, ten and more kilometers. The best was IL2 1946, where I found artillery positions even 100 kilometers behind the front, and they were firing. 1

TP_Silk Posted December 8, 2016 Posted December 8, 2016 Nice tip thanks. They could get easily overrun at that distance That, increasing integration with tank units and the growing efficiency of counter-battery fire were three of the main main drivers behind the move to self-propelled artillery.
Matt Posted December 8, 2016 Posted December 8, 2016 Ranges of the artillery : leFH 18 = 11 km ML-20 = 17.5 km BM-13 = 8.5 km M-30 = 11.8 km AT-guns have 2 km range. 3
Yogiflight Posted December 8, 2016 Posted December 8, 2016 2km range for AT-guns against tanks is much too high. 1000m for the 'Acht Acht', about 500-600m for the smaller calibre AT-guns like 7,5cm Pak40, exept against light tanks, like the T70. @Jacko, they were quite often overrun by the fast tank forces. But they could defend themselves, when attacked from the front.
