Why am I getting such bad download speeds for IL-2: BoS

I usually have between 2-4MB/s download speed for games such as WT, AW and DCS: World, but I am struggling to even get past the 200KB/s mark. Anyone have any clues as to why? I am not running any background tasks either.

I sometimes get really bad speeds for this game but it normally is fine. I guess it is to do with your location and or how many others are downloading at the same time

I'm the only one using the internet at the moment.

He's talking about other people d/l at the same time you are, sometimes slowing things down, not the number of people using the internet at your location.

Did you check 'prefer web distribution'? That normally helps when speeds are slow.

Did you close all the porn downloads from eMule?

And that's the only good argument to transfer BoS on Steam... at least you get the download server of Steam!

It boosted my download speed from 50 Ko/s to 500 Ko/s... which is my max download speed on my crap connexion

(before anybody asks: yes I still do all my purchases directly on il-2 website, I don't give any money to Steam!)

Wow 70k. I'm get about 15kb/s. To rule out iiNet as the cause I just downloaded a large file from my Palo Alto server at around 15Mb/s. Why are updates so painfully slow?

Is Prefer Web Distribution actually some sort of torrent method, or is it a download from a server?  The phrase is about as revealing as an el Qaida swimsuit calendar.

Pretty sure its the other way around. Web distribution uses HTTP to download update files (in a single HTTP connection) from a server on AWS. The alternative (and default) is to use P2P where the chunks are seeded by others who have already downloaded parts of the update.
