Mukai Posted December 3, 2016 Posted December 3, 2016 Hey guys really enjoying the game at the moment but I was wondering if anyone has any rule of thumb on what bomb loads (or when to use rockets/cannons) to use for specific targets? For both German and Soviet bombersI keep falling into the trap of 'bigger is better' but since you generally get only one or two of these bombs I feel like while the target if chose is certainly dead, maybe a load of smaller bombs would have been more than enough and more effective in netting more targetsSo my question is, what bomb weights (100,250,500 etc) should I use for hangers, fuel dumps, tanks, trains, factories etc etc. Also what are underwing cannons effective against and when to use rockets?(PS i did search for this but I couldn't find anything on it)
=38=Tatarenko Posted December 3, 2016 Posted December 3, 2016 Cannon - 23 and 37 with AP only vs tanksRockets - fairly useless although the aiming assist point in Normal mode is good. ROFS132 for the biggest bang. Consider firing as a pair vs parked a/c.Bombs - forget vs tanks in experts mode.
Mukai Posted December 3, 2016 Author Posted December 3, 2016 Ok thank you! Any idea about bombing hard targets like buildings? What size bombs are recommended?

Consider firing as a pair vs parked a/c. The 132's are not useless, especially when you set them fire in doubles. Ok thank you! Any idea about bombing hard targets like buildings? Luftschiff Posted December 4, 2016 Posted December 4, 2016 In my experience, it depends on the target, as you say. There's no cure-all, but generally speaking: Big targets (i.e factories, facility, port) Big bombs. Especially early in a mission, 1000 kg are my go-to. Certainly if I can bring several bombers along to get good saturation despite the low number of bombs. Smaller targets or targets that are spread out - (fuel depots, ships, AI airfields, tanks, convoys etc) I find it more effective to bring a bunch of smaller bombs. Rockets and Cannons are hard to use effectively, I use them occasionally against tanks, especially late mission when there's just a few left. So, factor in the (general) size of the target, how much of it is is still untouched, and how many friends you can bring along.
Y29.Layin_Scunion Posted December 5, 2016 Posted December 5, 2016 A quip on the Pe-2: The two 500kg load out creates a significant amount of drag compared to the four 250kg load out. I almost always take four 250's and drop in pairs if need be.
Jade_Monkey Posted December 5, 2016 Posted December 5, 2016 It really deoends on the targets. I like the 250 for general purpose, its potent and you can carry several. The 50s are pretty useless unless its a direct hit.
Mukai Posted December 8, 2016 Author Posted December 8, 2016 Ok guys many thanks for all the help. I've been loading up on 1000s for the beginning of a mission then switching for 250s/500s as the match proceeds. Seems to be doing the job so far, I'm still learning to hit things accurately so I tend to lean a little heavier towards the bigger bombs for now
