Please don't completely junk the "campaign" generator!

To quote Jason in the Scripted Campaign announcement thread:

No, this are separate hand-crafted missions. Forget about the current Campaign system. It's all getting junked. We've explained this already.

But I think it would be a shame to lose the "campaign" generator technology. It now reliably - at least in my experience - generates fun and challenging missions. As has been said many times, if you treat it like it's a super-quick-mission-builder it does a great job and it's great for practicing, especially things like level bombing or navigating.

So, devs, please don't axe it completely. Maybe re-label it or redeploy it somehow, but I'd miss it if it wasn't there altogether!  :acute:

+1  Make it a random mission generator like the quick mission feature. :salute:

Having seen inside the GTP files and viewed the structure of the RoF and BoS' campaign and career, I don't think they can exist side by side.  It will have to be one or the other.

Cant they keep the current one under the missions tab as "Random mission"?

I hope they can keep it as a mission generator, even if it's not a campaign.

There will be a dynamic career (campaign). At least that is what I read. So there will be scripted campaigns and a dynamic career where you will be able to start in moscow and fight until Kuban.

I do hope they keep some of the code from the old campaign in the form of a new 'sortie generator'. Choose a mission type, plane, difficultly, airbase to take off from, target type, etc. Such a feature would sit very well alongside the quick mission generator I feel.

The current system is an abject failure as a campaign, but a pretty fantastic mission generator and it would be a shame to lost every aspect of it.

I absolutely agree on this.

I have to agree guys. I don't want there to be a mixed message here though. The new dynamic campaign system that they have coming soon sounds fantastic and I very much called for that to come before and I'm happy to hear that it will.

What I'd like for to happen is for some way that this gets rolled into the QMB. As someone said above... a "sortie" generator would be great. The QMB is lacking in missions well setup for full AI armor attack, artillery attack, ship attack missions. QMB is a great place to practice that kind of thing and the structure that the current "campaign" system offers is pretty decent.

Maybe they can't exist side by side technically - so I'd call for an enhanced QMB.

Totally agree on keeping the current 'campaign' as a mission generator, if it's technically possible in the game and server side, ofc.

A feature less, is a feature less.

I'm having fun, maybe even too much, on the current "campaign" mode after acquiring BoM. I don't want to sound arrogant with the quotes on the word campaign, though. You guys did an awesome job through the time since the release date, but having noticed that will be career mode soon (YAAAAY finally :))))))) and now scripted campaigns (props even though it's not my thing), the mode indeed fall even shorter under the tag as Campaign for players but clearly has a value.

The hell, I log in everyday to take my E7 for a spin along with the I-16 and the MiG without much hassle or commitment as there is in dynamic career mode as RoF's. :)

Did I miss a post? I didnt see any new dynamic campaign development announcement.

Where can I see more details about the dynamic campaign?

Very good points made. I must admit that I had fun with the old-style campaigns as a learning tool right up until my pilot level meant that everything latched right onto my six and sniped me from distance with ace AI. The missions themselves were fun up to that point and a great way to try out new/better ways of doing things. I think that historically the main two issues with the old-style campaign were the linkage to pilot level and the lack of continuity between missions due to the fact that one's success or failure didn't impact your situation in the following missions.

I know that very, very few pilots can ever realistically be said to have changed the course of a battle or campaign, but local conditions would certainly change due to overall success/failure rates in any given theatre. It must be a very fine line indeed for the devs to walk when balancing the desire by the community for our aerial endeavours to have an impact on what happens next with the reality that one pilot succeeding/failing, living/dying or crashing/landing safe would have marginal to no impact on the war as a whole.

" It's all getting junked " sounds more like a sin what is getting junked not the technology. Do it right at the first try or leave it remain much better than " It's all getting junked " now! :umnik2:

I like it also, but I remember that somewhere the Devs state that it will be upgraded to be usedin the new career. I'm taking by memory, could be wrong.

I also think renaming it with 'Random Mission Generator' is good idea.  :clapping:

I agree. The campaign has many shortcomings when you pretend it's a campaign, but works great as a single mission generator.  If possible, please keep it as new "Single Mission", "Customised Mission", "Random Sortie", "Fly Now" option, or merge it with Quick missions?

I can see the point in perhaps keeping it as a SP mission generator, but to be truthful, I won't shed a single tear is it does get junked...

We're not throwing out the technology behind our generator. Just the presentation. You guys know better than to think that. Stop.
