Requiem's RL flying update

Our hero Requiem started his RL flying back in Jan 2015. Eight months later he was a certified flight instructor, qualified to teach single and multi-engine as well as instrument flying. Since then he's been teaching students from the PRC in Sherman TX. None of us will be surprised that he's achieved an incredible success rate with his students, close to 90% first time pass rate on check rides.

 

This morning he interviewed for his first US airline gig. After phoning Mrs Requiem, (smart man) he called me to announce has been hired to fly for Endeavor Air.  He'll start out in the right seat of the CRJ-200 and CRJ-900 flying out of New York City (JFK and LGA). He will be back home in Sherman this evening.

 

He allowed me to share this GREAT news with all his friends in the BoS community.

Cheers guys! It really means a lot to hear the encouragement and well wishes from you all because I know how crazy this situation is coming straight from flight simulator land. It's unreal to look back and think about the opportunity that has let me go from zero flight time to start training at an airline in just 2 years. It's been a lot of study and hard work, and always will be, but I've loved every minute of it so it's kind of an effortless effort if that makes sense.

 

I did a lot of preparation for the interview so it's awesome to get an offer from them because it's the only regional I've considered flying for. I have some responsibilities to my current students though so I'm finishing their instrument training before I move on to prevent them getting stuck with a new instructor. In early January I'll be doing an ATP-CTP course then shortly after that I'll start my official first day at my new "job" (we all know flying for a living isn't a real job )

 

At least until all that happens then I expect to be able to fly online more often and hopefully knock out a video or two!

 

I want a cut of his check.

You probably do deserve some of it actually since without Rise of Flight and my wife buying it (even when I said to not worry about buying it) none of this would have happened I liked your last landing in the Citation btw, you definitely didn't scare the pax as much on that one!

Safety is always #1 for me, but my spidey sense for it only got more attuned by teaching Private Pilot skills to Chinese students with limited english and bad hand-eye coordination!

Yeah I do plan on keeping the CFI current. I'll be doing it the easy way first by applying for the Gold Seal CFI license to renew it.

Me too. One area that's been lacking is the simple fundamentals of flight for those completely new to flying/simulators.

Yep, just like ExpressJet, Endeavor is a Delta Connection partner but Endeavor is wholly owned by Delta so we get some extra perks compared to other carriers. If all goes well and I get past the next hurdle of Endeavor's training, if any of you hop on a flight and hear an Aussie accent over the PA that is probably me so say hello!

Yeah, being very much into airplane porn, I have to pinch myself sometimes just to confirm it is real and I am doing this for a living.  Of course it is not so magical on day 4 after a 4 hour sit to a non-commutable trip at the end.      

 

Requiem will know that feeling and is joining a good group of folks.  Endeavor is at the top of heap for regionals and currently holds a better ontime record than mainline.

Microsoft Flight Sim 95 got me hooked on this business when I was 9 years old flying the learjet with that pixelated cockpit. Many here have that same hobby/fascination with flight. If Requiem's path is something you've considered but say "I can't do that", yes you can just like myself and many others on this site. Make the hobby a profession.

Just to answer this. Endeavor doesn't have a flow through agreement like what exists between American Airlines and Envoy. Instead, Endeavor and Delta have an agreement where once you upgrade and spend two years as a Captain you have a guaranteed interview with Delta if you want it.

Seeing Requiems knowledgeable & informative RoF videos years ago was inspiring and brought to life some of the theories and practices I had read about, notably 'Full Circle' by Johnnie Johnson I commented on this at the time of he remembers.

It's truly incredible that Requiem has gone from flight simulation to the real thing in such a short time, truly testament to his skill and hard work.
