Hi! I'm new here ...

... true story! *nods*

I didn't find a 'New member introduction thread', so I made one (@Mods: In case I was simply too blind and/or stupid to find the 'New members introduce yourselves here'-thread, I'd ask for removal of this thread here with minimum ridicule & hazing. Pls?)

So, my name is Andreas, I'm a German from Northrhine-Palatine (Cologne-area) and getting back into Flight-sims after ... about 15 years of abstinence. I'm a theoretical physicist by trade, love Jazz/Fusion/Funk and cats. And gaming. Which ... is kinda obvious, I guess.

I started a training for a PPL-C (Gliders) 20 years back, but got annoyed with the 'Vereinsmeierei', ("club-mania") as we say in Krautland, so I stopped short after my 'Alleinflugprüfung' ('Unsupervised flight certificate?' - means they trust you not to kill yourself, so you're allowed to go up without trainer, as long as you stay in visual range of the field) and about six hours of real-world cockpit time.

So I should be Ace of Aces in no time, right?

So far, I'm still in the BoS-campaign, I love the Bf-109 and I'm trying to get used to Fw-190 ... which ... takes some getting used to.

Yeah, that's about what I can think of right now.

TL;DR: Hi, I'm new, please don't hate me.

Why would anyone hate you? This is probably one of the friendliest communities on the internet.

Welcome, good luck and if you need any assistance there are plenty of knowledgeable people frequenting the forum.

See you in the skies.

Welcome to the mental asylum   Patients can be anything from docile to outright hostile and in between  :P

Hello Case! Welcome. The Fw is a heck of a plane when you get used to it. Enjoy the friendly skies (but watch your 6).

Hi folks!

Thanks for the warm welcome!

@BFBunny: Because this is the Internet? I didn't really expect trouble - I browsed a bit before introducing myself - but I've learned the hard way that it's generally better to introduce oneself before jumping right into the most heated discussion on the forum with a strong opinion & a boatload of (unwarrented) confidence ...

@LLv34_Flanker: Just the way I like it, then ...

@Pontov: It is, isn't it? Though the high-speed stall characteristics seem a bit ... surprising. I was taught to "watch what you're doing with the rudders when you're slow" during glider-training - but with the 190, I've found that when I do e.g. a high-g-yoyo (*), the most stall-prone situation is not at the noseup (I can pull pretty hard there), not at the rollover at the highest point (I mean banking more than 90° to get the nose down below the horizon again), where speed is lowest - she  even forgives moderate application of rudder - but precisely in the "pull out of the dive & turn into the bandit" at the end ...

@II/JG11ATLAN: Ein Rheinländer! Aus Solingen! I'm from Leichlingen, originally - though I currently live in Rhineland-Palatine. Do you know the airfield in Wiescheid?

(*) Haven't found anything else to counter the Yak-1's good turn-rate/radius - well, despite getting shot out of the skies at the 2nd turn in the scissors, or ramming the 190 into the ground after "unexpected stall #127" when I try to fight in the horizontal plane.
