Multiplayer servers and ping ratings to avoid...?

Recommended Posts

New player here.  Been practicing a lot on my own.  Only about 50 hours of flight and already upgrading hardware and accessories, I'm so into this game.  Then I realized, I live in Taiwan, are there going to be issues when I finally do feel comfortable enough joining a multiplayer server?

So, I was just wondering what ping ratings I should avoid, when I get there?  I'd hate to spend a bunch of cash, and then have multiplayer unplayable; the whole reason I've been so excited for this game.

Better question:  What ping ratings would be considered decent enough to play at?

Also, how can you view your ping rating in-game?

I'm in Australia, where pings to all the big servers in Europe are typically around 340. It works fine and other players much nearer the source say they haven't seen anything odd happen.

We need servers like wol or random experts in Asia. I travel in Asia often. I get ping to eu servers from 200 to 300. Playable.

Asia servers i feel.... they lack in immersion. There are some asia servers that ping is good - less than 100 but set up is not so great.

In my experience High ping = High packet loss.  It isn't scientific, but as an American on the US West Coast connecting to servers in Russia and Europe primarily it can affect MP gameplay.  There have been times where Client-side (my side) I hammer a target, but the server on the other side of the world only registers a few hits (due to packet loss), and the guy flying that plane comes away with "its only a flesh wound!"  and then reverses and fires at me with great effect.  I have tracks to support since my tracks see what I am seeing.  Its rather annoying and as long as you are OK with a built in disadvantage when it comes to gunnery and firepower effectiveness you should be fine.

Moral of the story is, the guy closest to the Server side has an advantage when it comes to tracking hits.  The obvious answer to this is shoot a little earlier than when your eye tells you its time, and make sure your burst is long and accurate as the "time to kill" your opponent is directly related to your own survival.

That being said, I find it absolutely amazing that a game that measures success in split second accuracy and decision making can even be played over such long IP Deltas.  So in that sense kudos to the Devs...

I fly from Nigeria and it don't get worse than that, eh? Well, lately I get knocked off for bad pings and this has happened probably like a whole week now. It's usually anything above 230. You should be okay from Taiwan.

Western Australia - 410ms to WOL. I still manage to get a kill occasionally. Don't let ping put you off.
