JV44Svejk Posted November 22, 2016 Posted November 22, 2016 Hi guys. After 13 years of using my Samsung SyncMaster 245BW I've decided to get a new monitor. I'm sort of torn between those two: https://www.amazon.ca/Acer-Predator-NVIDIA-Widescreen-Display/dp/B0173PEX20/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1479790445&sr=8-1&keywords=acer+predator+xb271hu https://www.amazon.ca/Acer-XB241YU-bmiprz-23-8-inch-2560x1440/dp/B01LJUNMYK?tag=amazon0064-20 What do you guys think? One is 27" ISP and the other is 24" TN. Both have very good reviews both by pros and customers.
ShamrockOneFive Posted November 24, 2016 Posted November 24, 2016 After buying a Dell U2412M years ago with an IPS panel display and one of the lowest (at the time) response times of any IPS panel I decided to go with that one. I've been a very happy camper since. Whichever you buy, I would examine the reviews at TFT Central: http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/ The reviewer there knows his stuff. Examines displays at a detail level that most reviewers do not and when it comes to gaming (and simming), you want to get into some of the nitty gritty details regarding good colours and acceptable response times. 1
LLv34_Flanker Posted November 24, 2016 Posted November 24, 2016 (edited) S! I got the monitor I have: AOC AG271QG 27" 165Hz GSync . HAve not regretted it a single moment. Really good image and colors, not to mention 165Hz refresh rate Edited November 24, 2016 by LLv34_Flanker
KG200_Volker Posted December 4, 2016 Posted December 4, 2016 If you stay in 27 inch region stay away from 4K , no difrence for this size in terms of pixel density and very taxiing even for 1080 card for no good reason. If a Nvidia user, G Sync makes a huge difrence even down to 40 fps (35 is the limit since the monitors can't go less) producing a flicker free and solid picture. Also stay clear from TN panels, IPS with 4ms are way better now than a TN with 1 (tftcentral if you want to learn more). I have the acer 270 IPS and it was when I got it an eye popping experience. A friend got the asus one and it's even better. If I was buying a monitor now those would be my choices : https://www.asus.com/Monitors/ROG-SWIFT-PG279Q/ Review: http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/reviews/asus_rog_swift_pg279q.htm And: https://www.acer.com/ac/en/CA/content/model/UM.HX1AA.001 The review is for the 270 one but you can find what was improved in the new one: http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/reviews/acer_xb270hu.htm
SvAF/F16_Goblin Posted December 4, 2016 Posted December 4, 2016 If it's in your budget, and you have a Geforce 10XX card, I would recommend Acers Predator X34A ultra wide monitor. I have the first generation X34 and I'm very happy with it.
SCG_Space_Ghost Posted December 6, 2016 Posted December 6, 2016 I'm very happy with my Dell S2716DG. 1
Dutchvdm Posted December 6, 2016 Posted December 6, 2016 I'm very happy with my Dell S2716DG. Hi Space_Ghost, How's live? Ordered the same monitor begin this week. Will upgrade it with a MSI 1080 Gaming X. Thought long about buying a fancy ultrawide IPS, but for that kind of money the number of faults and little problems are for me still to much there. Grt M
Sgt_Joch Posted December 6, 2016 Posted December 6, 2016 I have been looking hard at this one to replace my Dell 24" widescreen http://www.lg.com/us/monitors/lg-34UC79G-B-ultrawide-monitor 34" curved and 2560x1080 resolution for acceptable frame rates. There is also a model with 3440x1440, if you have the horsepower to handle it.
SCG_Space_Ghost Posted December 6, 2016 Posted December 6, 2016 (edited) Hi Space_Ghost, How's live? Ordered the same monitor begin this week. Will upgrade it with a MSI 1080 Gaming X. Thought long about buying a fancy ultrawide IPS, but for that kind of money the number of faults and little problems are for me still to much there. Grt M It's been absolutely phenomenal. The build quality is great, the stand is robust, sturdy and offers all of the adjustment that I would expect from a panel at this price point. Additional features like the USB 3.0 passthrough on the back/side of the monitor is handy. It's likely the best color-reproducing TN panel I've owned. Be aware that like any TN, it takes some attention to detail and a little love to get the settings just right for your room/environment. I use a combination of NVidia CP settings and hardware settings on the display to pair well with the lighting/colors in my office. G-Sync at this resolution/size/price point is a real treat and has definitely improved my gaming experience across the board. 1440p is a significant (IMO) step up from 1080p in terms of general use (reading, writing, browsing, etc.) and provides great eye-candy with (obviously) less-than-4K hardware demands. The 144Hz and 1MS response time go hand-in-hand with G-Sync to create a smooth, pixel dense experience. From a QC standpoint, my unit was received with absolutely no dead pixels, sloppy manufacturing defects, etc. The packaging is solid, built well and good to retain if you ever have to move this nearly-bezel'less beast around. Paired with your 1080 you should be able to expect great frames in air, on the ground or in any other gaming applications that you enjoy. I wouldn't return mine and I wouldn't have made a different choice when it comes to picture/price/features/performance/appearance/etc. Hope that helps! Edited December 6, 2016 by Space_Ghost 1
LLv34_Flanker Posted December 7, 2016 Posted December 7, 2016 S! Can not go back to TN after using IPS panel. The image just is that much better. 165Hz and GSync does not hurt either. And zero performance issues with the 1080GTX.

Had some extra time yesterday and the new monitor arrived. Installed the new GPU and monitor. The combo is great. The screen has zero BLB and eventhough it's only 27", combined with the higher resolution the extra space or real estate makes a big difference. I didn't time to calibrate and tweak everything but did run some quick tests and the performance is phenomenal. Really happy with my choice. Next week some real flying to do. Grt M 1
SCG_Space_Ghost Posted December 16, 2016 Posted December 16, 2016 -snip- Really happy with my choice. -snip- I'm glad to hear that it's working out for you! Enjoy.
VR-DriftaholiC Posted December 20, 2016 Posted December 20, 2016 Anything with g-sync if you have an nvidia card. 1

I too also got this monitor and have to say it is fantastic. This has made such differance to my game, so thank you Space Ghost for your recommendation!
