Blutaar Posted November 18, 2016 Posted November 18, 2016 Are there any plans to do some nice Pilot models so its not just a empty cockpit? I mean it takes immersion away to see no body when im looking down. Dont know why there is no pilot from the beginning, even WT has a pilot model? Hope we will see that in the near future, its a must for immersion in my opinion.
Blooddawn1942 Posted November 18, 2016 Posted November 18, 2016 (edited) It is a matter of taste. In DCS You have the option to enable the pilotmodel. And I generaly switch it off. It blocks the sight to instruments, gauges and levers. So I do not miss this feature here either. On the downside, there is no shadow from the pilot beeing cast on the wings, just from the struts. That looks kind of odd. Edited November 18, 2016 by Blooddawn1942
Blutaar Posted November 18, 2016 Author Posted November 18, 2016 To have an option would be the best like in DCS in my opinion. If your arm blocks an instrument you can just toggle off the pilotmodel. Or it just toggles off when you zoom in and toggles back when you zoom out, im sure there are many ways to do that, i hope we will get pilotmodels sometime.
Yogiflight Posted November 18, 2016 Posted November 18, 2016 TBH, I don't see how a correct modelled pilot body, with the right hand at the stick and the left hand at the gas lever, could block much sight to the instruments. Definitely less than the front machinegun of the Ju88, modelled in the wrong travelling position, which should be at the right side of the cockpit, hanging in a loop.
Sim Posted November 18, 2016 Posted November 18, 2016 (edited) I think this will be a must have feature for VR support. Also - this opens up some new interesting features - like pilot kneeboards. Edited November 18, 2016 by Sim 1
Blutaar Posted November 18, 2016 Author Posted November 18, 2016 That with the arm blocking view was just an example, what i mean is when a body part blocks view on an instrument.
TP_Silk Posted November 18, 2016 Posted November 18, 2016 I have to be honest and say that I prefer the pilot not to be present. A pilot model would just get in the way for me. 2
Yogiflight Posted November 18, 2016 Posted November 18, 2016 (edited) If you do not wear your head under your arm or between your legs, then the only parts, that could block your sight to the instruments are the arms, despite someone is flying with his feet at the instrument panel. So you were absolutely, Ishtaru, correct with your example. If it is a problem in DCS, then they might have the wrong camera position. But I agree, let it be optional, as tastes are different. kestrel79 Posted November 18, 2016 Posted November 18, 2016 Agreed I never liked this feature in games...but I've heard it really helps to put you there for VR. But for me I turn it off in DCS, Warthunder, iRacing.
Danziger Posted November 18, 2016 Posted November 18, 2016 Still would be nice to make it OPTIONAL for people who do want it.
Uufflakke Posted November 18, 2016 Posted November 18, 2016 A similar pilot/crew model topic was posted a couple of days ago. http://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/26096-crew-models-creep-me-out-any-way-remove-them/
FuriousMeow Posted November 18, 2016 Posted November 18, 2016 It would eat up a lot of resources to do this, better spent on making content the majority will use. 1
[TWB]80hd Posted November 18, 2016 Posted November 18, 2016 You're the pilot. Look down at yourself. (No offense to any AI) 1
Crump Posted November 18, 2016 Posted November 18, 2016 I think this will be a must have feature for VR support. Also - this opens up some new interesting features - like pilot kneeboards. A graphical model of the pilot would be nice but not essential. However, a functioning pilot kneeboard is essential to operating any aircraft. It would be nice to have one with operating limitations, V-speeds, and checklists available. I am sure the community could help out in gathering the information on the airplanes modeled in the game. It would add a very important part of flying an airplane to the game. 1
Gunsmith86 Posted November 18, 2016 Posted November 18, 2016 I think this will be a must have feature for VR support. Also - this opens up some new interesting features - like pilot kneeboards. I see there some problems because when you use your trottle and it is somewere else in real than the one you see in game than you have a situation that is breacking immersion when you see a arm in game that does not move to the place were you move your real hand. What could proberbly work is some sort of see through body that has just some outline it works quiet good in some VR games and feels natural it also solves the problem that arms can block the view to some intruments. And i like the idea of a kneebord with map and other information.
YoYo Posted November 18, 2016 Posted November 18, 2016 (edited) Here is example from WT: http://i.imgur.com/vSS4g.jpg http://forum.il2sturmovik.com/uploads/monthly_01_2015/post-412-0-38652000-1422539250.jpg Edited November 18, 2016 by YoYo
YoYo Posted November 21, 2016 Posted November 21, 2016 Btw in Dora (DCS) is nice pilot also. Did You see this cross :D.
=SqSq=Sulaco Posted November 22, 2016 Posted November 22, 2016 I understand removing the pilot model in DCS to access instruments, etc but seeing as how there are no clickable cockpits in this I would love to see pilot bodies as an option, I think it would really add to the immersion. The above image of the DCS pilot model is excellent!
Gambit21 Posted November 22, 2016 Posted November 22, 2016 Frankly, and this is just me - the current level of texture mapping and lighting doesn't have me wishing for a pilot model which will just further highlight those weaknesses. 1
Mustang_45 Posted November 22, 2016 Posted November 22, 2016 I prefer for the pilot not to be present. Looking at those fake arms and legs just makes me cringe. But an option to turn the pilot on or off can't hurt I guess... I'll just keep the undead mannequin switched off.

As much as I'd like a pilot model this is actually a REALLY good point.
