Crump Posted November 17, 2016 Posted November 17, 2016 Here is propeller efficiency of the BMW801D2 equipped FW-190A series in a climb at Steig u Kampfleistung. The climb rate differences are compared between the 9.8% chord width metal blade and the 12.6% wide chord wooden blade. The efficiency in the climb for the 9.8% ranges from 78%-84% depending on the power loading. The wide chord wooden blade ranges from 81% to 87% depending on the power loading. It is representative of climbing and turning flight. At higher power settings and level flight the efficiency will increase. This gives a good data point under known conditions for the propeller model of the BoS FM to compare. 4
II/JG17_HerrMurf Posted November 18, 2016 Posted November 18, 2016 Have you sent this as a PM to Han in the format he has requested?
Wulf Posted November 18, 2016 Posted November 18, 2016 Great find Crump. Hope you send it through to, 'the man'.
Crump Posted November 18, 2016 Author Posted November 18, 2016 I sent him a PM but what format has he requested? This isn't a bug report, you know that right? Therefore, as a part of this task we have a counter-favor to ask our community to help us to find the original German (or any other) sources with the aerodynamic characteristics of DVL series propellers, or VDM propeller particularly. In our work we have been forced to use the DVL propeller data taken from Soviet sources as we did not find anything better. We fully admit that the recalculating of propeller characteristics using our current curves could give incorrect results. http://il2sturmovik.com/news/257/dev-blog-138/ They request information as modeling propellers is impossible without measured data. Basically aerodynamic theory not will return very accurate results without a measured starting point. It can explain the force relationships but isn't very good at creating something out of nothing.
II/JG17_HerrMurf Posted November 18, 2016 Posted November 18, 2016 I know for FM data/changes Han has requested PM's in a particular format. It has been mentioned a few times in the Fw flame wars of past. I'm glad you found it and posted it but if you want it reviewed it seems the best place (PM) to get it into the right hands.
