Good question. I'm waiting for the DX11 update to get some conformation from people running with a 1080. In it's current state 4K is only possible with some compromise on FPS or quality. I'm waiting till next year and will replace my 980 with a 1080 ti (coming in januari) or 1080. For the monitor i'm also a bit confused. The price range for a decent 4K monitor is big. From 450 to 1200. As far as i can see this is mainly due to the screentype. IPS or TN. IPS gives better quality but worse responsetimes. And IPS is more expensive. I think i will go for one of the better TN screens. The Asus PB287Q. It has good reviews from both press and customers.

Hope it helps.

What about LG 27ud68-w? Similar price, IPS matrix 5 ms response time, wonder if it is a big difference versus 1 ms in the one you recommended. Another hard but pleasant decision to make:-)

40'' think is a bit to much for me:-P

Looks good as well. Reviews are good across the board. I think i missed it due to my 28" filtering. Some reviews complain about the responsetime for games like Doom and other fast paced shooters. I don't think this will be an issue for Il-2. But for me i don't know. I play more games then Il-2.

Same here. 28 to 30 inch sounds perfect for me.

Then i think you just experience/see it in real life. I haven't decided yet, but i will let you know when.

For 4k 38-40'' fit really nicely . 30" would be to small. I have 34 for 2k and this is good ratio for pixel density vs size. There are full HD 34" but image do not look good beside games. Edited by 307_Tomcat

Really? I have a 24" full HD but resolution wise thats for me the bare minimum. For bigger monitors i would say that 2,5k and 4k are nice. But it also depends on how far you're from the screen.

27" for 2560x1440 is optimal as well know among experts. Same goes with 24 and 1080p. Bear that we are saying about productivity not only games. Edited by 307_Tomcat

Ahh that explains a lot. I'm purely talking about games. For working i understand the statement. I have a laptop for work. My own rig is only for gaming.

Its not only about resolution you need to make sure you new monitor has g sync and high refresh rate I currently have xb270HU and couldnt be happier (144hz, gsync, 27 inches, 1440p) screw 4k go for something like this http://www.acer.com/ac/en/GB/content/predator-model/UM.CX0EE.A01

once again, to really enjoy fast games like flight sims, cars shooters and so on, you absolutly have to have high refresh rate and g sync, its a whole new experience

Good to hear! Looking forward to your experiences. Looking at that one as well, but price wise it kind of expensive.

Is it a question of budget or real estate space? If you have the space think about it if you go 4K.

First the pixel density is 4 times a 1080P resolution that mean your pixel are 4x smaller. That make spotting tougher if you go small.

Second the bigger you go it improve your immersion immensely.

Bought this one a few month ago and couldn't be happier

http://hexus.net/tech/reviews/monitors/90008-iiyama-prolite-x4071uhsu-b1/

Great response (that's a true monitor, not a TV), great contrast and colors, pretty good black depth (a big improvement on my old philips 21" 1080p monitor).

I like the (gadgets) built in USB hub and the small retractable side stand for the track IR hat ! Not a single dead pixel on mine.

I wish it was G-sync compatible, but given the price tag, I won't complain !

For now I'm running it in a downscaled 2048x1152 resolution while saving money for a 4k 60Hz capable computer.

That's what I said to me once I bought that big arse screen and put it in place. "well maybe that is a bit too much"

But after a few days, it even feel a bit small as it doesn't fill up my peripheral vision. You get used to it rather quickly.

I don't think I will ever be able to return to a 32" now. Even the 17" of my laptop feel like an iphone screen now  :P

For me 60hz feels to lagy, it's very noticable in fps games, well if you like me have only BOS and ROF installed so perhaps it could work. Glad i have my 100hz g-sync 3440x1440 4ms ips panel :)

I did some research and i have to retract my previous statement somewhat. I makes no sense to run 4K on a monitor smaller than 30 inch. That means that leaves me with two options. The Acer Predator 32" that Pruciak bought, or a ultrawide. the last one seams nice because it's gives a more natural feel for FOV. But i'm a bit concerned about the resolution in other games. Yes IL-2 and Doom will run fine. But what about everything else?..

decisions decisions...  :(

This makes me mad  :salute:

This is the thing i hate about the internet... In the old days, one would just go to the store and bought the one thing that looked good and was affordable. Now you spends weeks on the net going through a zillion review, opinions., youtube movies. You name it. At leat i have a short list now of a 32 inch 4K or a 34 inch ultrawide. I think i will go to an actual store and see both irl. That must help.

Thanks for the input guys.

Well, just as info I'm running a MSI Gaming X 1070 with Predator X34" ultra wide G-sync monitor with FPS above 60 most of the time.

Hey Martijn, I am interested in a new monitor as well, followed some YouTube vids and tests, but no decision yet. Cost-benefit ratio of this LG 34 curved monitor you found seems to be a sweet spot, but unfortunately only Free-Sync. If you are going for NVidia you cannot use this feature. There is the ASUS ROG Swift PG348Q with G-Sync, but its almost double the price.

This Guy https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yjwH0dxqseo is obviously very happy with the LG, maybe you've seen vid already.

Cheers ... fv
