Awkward In-flight Messages

For a single-engined aircraft there is only one engine, so in this case messages like"First engine stopped" and "First engine throttle..." sound a bit absurd, don't they?

It's just to simplify the subject I think.

Same with the gunners. If you have only one it's always the 1st to call something.

It's not that important to me.

Not really the "throttle 0%" refers to the throttle setting on your instruments (in this case the throttle lever) this works Independent of whether the engine is running or not.

I agree that it simplifies the sim code a bit. But we are humans that read natural languages, not computers that read code.

Well I guess correcting it wouldn't be too much trouble.

Ah, I think the "throttle 0%" here is ok; it's not what I was talking about. The phrase "first engine" indicates that there are at least two engines (but you are sitting in a Bf109 for example, with only one engine, hence the absurdity).

Don't know if it's simple to solve. I think most things in a sim that look simple for us outstanders is in fact not simple at all to the devs.

Anyway, the only thing I notice from this "problem" is what I described above, the gunner(s). I fly without in flight messages. Just looking at the gauges is more simming (to me at least).

More annoying is if you forget to turn it off, the technochat sending you help messages in a stuka that you need to raise the landing gear.

Attached below is a screenshot from the original IL-2 Sturmovik 1946, with no third party updates. The messages there do not hint that your Bf-109 has two or more engines.

One more thing: the old IL-2 1946 message style is concise,  whereas the current BoS style, besides sounding strange, is verbose.

Does this "problem" really warrant a thread? Are you confused when you see this message in your single engined aircraft? I noticed this "issue" and thought about it for about as long as it took to push the key that caused it.

But hey, it's your right to be annoyed or traumatized with it - carry on.

My coding skills are very basic but wouldnt a simple IF statement do the trick?

If plane in (list of single engine planes) then print X else print Y

I think it's just probably one of a thousand simple items in their "when we have time" list

Agreed, it shouldnt be in the high priority list.

Those paratroopers on the other hand... Im wondering how the capture mechanics will work if they are even there.

Of course, please just count how many times you see them in a 30-minute combat sortie.

I know some coding too and I think you are right. It is a very simple thing, but it makes the sim better.

It really wouldn't matter if one just saw them a couple of times and never saw them again, but, as I mentioned, just count how many times you see them in a 30-minute combat sortie. That means for one that plays the sim often, he sees them countless times. It's like sand: one grain of sand is nothing, but the issue is a bucket of sand.

:P

I see

Well who knows - it might get attention later like I said above. For the moment it still seems like something you have to choose to fixate on.

You can turn it off. Settings > Flight interface > In-game messages : off

Engine 1: 0%

Engine 0%

Engine 0%

First Engine 0%

First Engine 0%

Engine 1: 0%

Engine 2: 0%

First engine: 0%

Second engine: 0%

If engine <2 setmessage "Your engine is at 0%"

else

setmessage "Your engines are at 0%"

else

I can say that this change would add 0 value to the sim. so not a priority for the Devs i guess.

For single players will add more value than ... "a correct" FM for Fw 190.

I see It would add 0 value to your personal game experience.

But please do not dictate its value.

Perhaps at least we can say: "Value" is in the eyes of the beholder.
